The long-running Friday the 13th saga may not have been on the big screen in over a decade, but the horror franchise<\/a> will be coming to the small screen as a brand-new TV series premieres later this year.<\/p>\n

Crystal Lake is a prequel to the beloved franchise, and depicts the origins of Pamela Vorhees (played here by Linda Cardellini) as she battles with grief following the death of her young son, Jason.<\/p>\n

Her world is turned upside down, however, when two strangers arrive at her door, with a “disturbing chain of events” being set into motion. This worries the residents of the titular town, but what secrets lurk?<\/p>\n

Ahead of its premiere on Sky<\/a> and NOW<\/a> in October, viewers can watch a first-look teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated eight-part series, with a voiceover stating that the town is “cursed”.<\/p>\n

There’s also a chilling nursery rhyme sung in honour of the town, while Pam is briefly shown drenched in blood as she aims to salvage what’s left of Jason. Ominously, one title card promises that the “legend begins with her”.<\/p>\n

In addition to Cardellini, the cast for the slasher horror series includes William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins and Gwendolyn Sundstrom. It is being developed by Brad Caleb Kane, while A24 is producing.<\/p>\n

As per the logline (via Sky<\/a>), Crystal Lake is set to expand “the mythology of one of horror’s most enduring franchises” by blending “psychological suspense, mystery and emotional storytelling with the legacy that has captivated audiences for generations”.<\/p>\n

Kane, who wrote three episodes of It: Welcome to Derry, said that his latest project was “made and crafted” by “people who grew up with the franchise” and “screamed at all of the kills”, with the aim being to “recreate that feeling for at-home audiences”.<\/p>\n

“So people should expect a ride, incredible performances and a show that exists within the canon and with the DNA of the original franchise,” he added. “Crystal Lake was made with so much love and respect for the fans and for the franchise in general.”<\/p>\n
