The story is a tale of resilience, strength and the law of the jungle — which organizers believe is a fitting backdrop for July’s full moon.

The hike will begin late in the afternoon and commence atop the summit as the sun sets.

Hikers will be able to watch the moon rise from the top of the summit as they rest and enjoy snacks. The moonlit hike down the mountain will show the hikers a “wilder” side of the park that isn’t visible during the day.

The 8+-mile hike is strenuous and according to organizers, hikers should be prepared for a steady pace, limited stops on the ascent and hiking in the dark.

Hikers should bring plenty of water and a snack or bagged meal to enjoy at the summit, dress in weather-appropriate layers and wear sturdy hiking shoes.

A headlamp or flashlight is required for the return hike after dark, and hiking poles are strongly recommended. A limited number of headlamps and trekking poles will be available on a first-come first-served basis.

Tickets are priced at $15 and the park entrance fee has been waived for this event.
