Middleton Park is amongst seven of Leeds\u2019 most popular parks to have been awarded the Green Flag Award after being recognised as being of international quality.<\/p>\n
Golden Acre Park, Kirkstall Abbey, Middleton Park, Otley Chevin Forest Park, Pudsey Park, Roundhay Park and Temple Newsam Estate are all managed by Leeds City Council and have yet again been listed among the best in the country.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes\u00a0as the\u00a0internationally recognised standard\u00a0for parks and green spaces\u00a0celebrates its 30th\u00a0year.<\/p>\n
The Leeds parks are\u00a0some of\u00a0a record breaking\u00a02,391\u00a0in the UK to achieve the award\u00a0this year.<\/p>\n
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.<\/p>\n
Some of the Green Flag parks in Leeds have received the award every year for over 15 years.<\/p>\n
Councillor James Gibson, Leeds City Council\u2019s executive member for environment, said:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe\u2019re really proud to have these brilliant parks in Leeds once again be recognised as some of the best in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a real testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of our teams and the volunteers who work hard to care for these spaces, ensuring it\u2019s maintained to a\u00a0high\u00a0standard for visitors and residents to enjoy every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said:<\/p>\n
\n\u201cParks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our\u00a0communities\u00a0and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0feel safe or\u00a0welcoming.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways\u00a0to\u00a0improve people\u2019s quality of life.<\/p>\n
