Leeds United are hunting for defensive reinforcements. They have to. Brighton swiped Pascal Struijk earlier this summer, leaving a gaping void at the back of the Elland Road defence. Now, a fresh target has surfaced in Italy. According to Tuttomercatoweb, with the news filtered through TransferFeed.com<\/a>, Leeds have registered serious interest in Udinese centre-back Oumar Solet. Direct lines of communication are already open. The club have contacted the 26-year-old Frenchman\u2019s camp to see what is what.<\/p>\n

The price tag is the stumbling block. Udinese want \u00a321m. No negotiations, apparently. Leeds United have not blinked yet. No indications suggest they will pay that full whack outright. But Solet, a former France Under-20 international, wants a crack at the Premier League. He needs it if he ever wants to break into the senior international setup. Udinese are willing sellers. They have to be. The player is heading into the final 12 months of his contract.<\/p>\n

Solet\u2019s path has been strange. Lyon-born, Lyon-trained, but they let him slip away. Red Bull Salzburg took him in. He spent four decent years in Austria, scooping up three league titles and a cup. Then, weirdly, he walked away as a free agent in the summer of 2024. No club grabbed him immediately. Udinese waited until October to sign him outside the window, meaning he could not play Serie A matches until January 2025.<\/p>\n

He made up for lost time. Last season was massive for him. He started 32 of his 33 league appearances, racking up 2,781 minutes of high-intensity Italian football. The numbers back up the eye test. He turned in 8.12 defensive contributions per game. Break that down, and you get 2.28 tackles, 5.17 recoveries, and 3.80 clearances per 90 minutes. Those are serious numbers in a league known for tactical defending.<\/p>\n

He is a threat at the other end, too. Three goals and an assist show he knows how to use his 192cm frame during set-pieces. FotMob gave him a season rating of 7.23, which actually eclipses Jaka Bijol, who managed a 7.02 for the same team. He is fast, comfortable on the left side of a central defensive pairing, and possesses excellent recovery pace. That is exactly what Leeds lack.<\/p>\n

This is where Leeds<\/a> need to use their heads. Udinese want \u00a321m. That is steep for a player with just 18 months of regular top-tier Italian experience. Yes, he is good. No, he is not a proven superstar.<\/p>\n

The leverage is all with Leeds United here. Solet is entering his final year. If Udinese do not cash in now, they get nothing next year. It is as simple as that. Inter Milan<\/a> tried their luck with a \u20ac20m bid including add-ons, and Udinese knocked it back. Bold. Or maybe foolish.<\/p>\n

Leeds are already closing in on Tarik Muharemovic<\/a> from Sassuolo. That transfer is reportedly set to cost around \u20ac40m. Spending another \u00a321m on a second centre-back feels like a massive financial stretch. The squad is thin, sure, but overpaying in a rush is how teams get into trouble.<\/p>\n

There is competition. Newcastle were sniffing around in May. Juventus and Barcelona are watching. If Leeds United wait too long, they might lose him. But paying the full \u00a321m when Udinese have zero contract leverage is bad business. Walk away if they won\u2019t settle for \u00a316m or \u00a317m.
