drone attack<\/a> in Ukraine\u2019s Sumy region killed nine bus passengers in what the National Police described as \u201ca cynical war crime\u201d.<\/p>\nSeven others were injured in the attack in Sumy\u2019s Bilopillia, Zelenskyy said in a post on X, and called for tougher sanctions on Moscow.<\/p>\n
Russia\u2019s Ministry of Defence said it had targeted Ukrainian military equipment, the TASS state news agency reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the deceased were civilians,\u201d Zelenskyy said, adding that preliminary reports indicated a father, mother and daughter had been killed. \u201cAnd the Russians could not have failed to understand what kind of vehicle they were targeting. This was a deliberate killing of civilians.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the wounded had suffered burns, fractures, and blast injuries, and were receiving treatment in hospital.<\/p>\n
The Ukrainian leader said he expected tougher sanctions from Ukraine\u2019s partners to pressure Moscow \u201cto stop the killings\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithout tougher sanctions, without stronger pressure, Russia will not seek real diplomacy,\u201d he said. \u201cThis must change.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said Russia had sent \u201ca weak and unprepared\u201d delegation to the Istanbul talks on Friday without a meaningful mandate, and real steps were needed to end the war.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha denounced the attack as a \u201cdeliberate and barbaric war crime\u201d, accusing Putin of continuing \u201cto wage a war against civilians\u201d and calling for additional pressure on Russia.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere should be no illusions. Pressure on Moscow must be increased to put an end to Russian terror,\u201d Sybiha wrote.<\/p>\n
