\n\tHaving just been announced as the Venice Film Festival<\/a> curtain raiser, Danny Boyle<\/a>\u2018s \u201cInk<\/a>\u201d has found a new nome.<\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix<\/a> has acquired the U.S. and Latin American rights to the film \u2014\u00a0about the early years of Rupert Murdoch\u2019s media empire as he planted a flag in the U.K. and starring Jack O\u2019Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy. The film will world premiere in the Venice competition on Sep 2, opening the 83rd edition of the festival.<\/p>\n

\n\tBased on the Tony-nominated stage play by James Graham (\u201cDear England,\u201d \u201cSherwood\u201d), who wrote the screenplay, \u201cInk\u201d was produced by Studiocanal, Media Res and House Productions, reuniting Academy Award winner Boyle with his \u201cSlumdog Millionaire\u201d exec producer Tessa Ross.<\/p>\n

\n\tSet in 1969, the film charts the story of how Murdoch and tabloid editor Larry Lamb launched \u201cThe Sun,\u201d newspaper. O\u2019Connell stars as \u201cThe Sun\u201d editor Lamb with Pearce as Murdoch. Foy plays Jules Davies.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLong before Fox News, click bait, and Truth Social; decades before Twitter, Facebook, Google & Only Fans, these two men created a new tabloid which against all the odds became the biggest selling newspaper in the world,\u201d said Boyle. \u201cCheeky, Irreverent, daring: The super soaraway Sun challenged the establishment and remade our world for the modern era.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs the official logline further details, \u201cInk\u201d is as \u201can explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news \u2014 one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBoyle produces with Ross (\u201cConclave,\u201d \u201cZone of Interest\u201d) and Michael Ellenberg (\u201cThe Morning Show,\u201d \u201cPachinko\u201d). Tracey Seaward (\u201cThe Two Popes,\u201d \u201cPhilomena\u201d) also produces. Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Joe Naftalin of Studiocanal are exec producers alongside Tonia Davis, Zoe Edwards, Graham and Sudie Smyth. Media Res optioned Graham\u2019s play, which was directed by Rupert Goold.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Netflix deal was handled by WME Independent and StudioCanal. <\/p>\n

\n\tStudiocanal handled worldwide sales and will release the film theatrically in their territories of the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Benelux, Australia and NZ.
