Marathon\u2019s<\/a> Game Director Joseph Ziegler has left his position at Bungie today<\/a>, and is moving on to pastures new.<\/p>\n

The departure \u2013 which seems sudden, and was not previously communicated \u2013 was confirmed by the ex-Valorant<\/a> man on social media earlier today.<\/p>\n

In a statement he said that he\u2019ll be passing the torch to \u201cthe very capable and amazing hands of Del Chafe III, who will guide the game forward alongside the Creative Director Julia Nardin\u201d.<\/p>\n

He wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want to say a deeply heartfelt thank you to all of you for supporting me and Marathon in our windy mission to bring a dark and terrifying space survival frontier to your screen. The mission will continue in new and surprising ways so stay tuned for what this team has in store for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Bungie has been going through a rough period, sunsetting Destiny 2<\/a> and subsequently losing 292 full-time staff<\/a> late last month.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s committed to Marathon moving forwards, although the game doesn\u2019t appear to be doing well; on its most popular platform, PC, it\u2019s been peaking with around 6,000 concurrent players<\/a> over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n

It did get a small boost with its free week and Season 2 release last month, but it looks like Sony\u2019s going to have to demonstrate outstanding patience if it hopes to see this project turn around.<\/p>\n
