They saw the biggest gain in the region, up \u00a31.9bn.<\/p>\n<p>Former<a href=\"https:\/\/plus.expressandstar.com\/news\/local-hubs\/birmingham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Birmingham<\/a> student Ben Francis of Gymshark makes the list again. His wealth grew even as company profits dipped. He\u2019s once again been named the richest young person in the <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.expressandstar.com\/news\/local-hubs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Midlands. <\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/0b998379-7573-4985-b529-2a9ac37d95f6.jpg\"   alt=\"Ben Francis founder of Gymshark\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Ben Francis founder of Gymshark<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s 76-page edition also marks a milestone: the biggest drop in UK billionaires since the list began 37 years ago\u2014down from 177 in 2022 to 156 in 2025. It\u2019s the third year in a row the count has fallen, with this being the steepest decline.<\/p>\n<p>The 350 individuals and families featured now hold a combined \u00a3772.8bn\u2014down 3% from last year. That\u2019s still more than Switzerland\u2019s annual GDP.<\/p>\n<p>Familiar names like Sir Elton John, Lord Lloyd-Webber, Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Euan Blair, Sir Lewis Hamilton, and Sir Christopher Nolan also appear.<\/p>\n<p>The entry threshold remains at \u00a3350m, reflecting a stagnant year at the top.<\/p>\n<p>Robert Watts, the list\u2019s compiler, noted: \u201cThe Rich List is evolving. There are fewer billionaires, and overall wealth is down. Fewer global elites are choosing to live in the UK, and tax changes\u2014especially the end of non-dom status\u2014are sparking backlash, not just from foreign investors but from UK entrepreneurs and family business owners, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that new fortunes are still being made across unexpected sectors\u2014from AI and gaming to makeup, radiators, and jogging bottoms: \u201cWhat inspires readers most are the stories of people who started with little and built their wealth from scratch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a data-vars-ea=\"in article - outbound\" data-vars-ec=\"navigation\" data-vars-el=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sunday-times-rich-list\" data-vars-event=\"gaEvent\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/sunday-times-rich-list\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">full list\u00a0<\/a>is available online and in the print edition on Sunday, 19 May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"At the top: Lord Bamford and family, worth \u00a39.45bn\u2014up from \u00a37.65bn last year.
