A first for the promotion apparently. I started training two years ago and was hooked after attending a show. This title fight is my fifth bout in just a year, and I’m proud to remain undefeated. This was scheduled to be my longest contest yet at four two-minute rounds, but I knocked my opponent down three times in the second round leading to the referee waving it off.”

“I want to stay humble about my success so far and take each fight as it comes. Although I get nervous the days before on fight day, I’ve always felt confident and buoyed up by supporters shouting my name as I enter the ring keen to have fun doing the business. This sport has helped me improve mentally and physically and be a better, more positive role model for my three children. I’ve made rapid progress and was proud to get our club’s ‘most improved boxer’ award in 2025.”

Danny’s son Tyler “wanted a new activity and seeing how boxing has been great for my dad I decided to give it a go. I’m just so very proud that my dad is a semi-professional boxer. Mine was a skills bout which lets a novice boxer demonstrate what they’ve learnt without worrying about the result. I was well into it by the second round and people were impressed with the combinations of punches I threw. I enjoyed the contest and I’m pleased I had the confidence to get into the ring in front of a couple of hundred people.”

Leeds Beckett construction management student and former pupil of Cockburn School Beeston’s James Nalias, 22, took up boxing earlier this year after “a rough 2025 in which I ended out of shape and overweight. Here I am six months later proud of a first round knockout. There’s more to come. I’m just so in love with the sport and best thing is I’m in shape. I played rugby as a youngster but never done any combat sports, so I’m used to rough and tumble. I’ve been training up to four times a week as I prepared these last two months. I’m proud, elated and game as it comes for further action.”

James Nalias

Teammate Mason Ledger, 21, cuts stone for a living. He also achieved a first round stoppage in his debut bout. “For me it’s about mastering the fundamentals and paying attention to my coach. I was keen not to get drawn into a brawl but rather land some decisive shots, which is what I did. I took the sport up to try something new and develop confidence and I’m proud that I’ve now made a successful start.”

“Everyone’s been impressed with Danny who always shows great heart, courage and determination and proved his aptitude for the sport winning our promotion’s title,” said Tristan Haynes. “Danny, James, Mason and Tyler typify the kind of boxer our shows promote as we offer talented local fighters the opportunity to prove they belong in semi-professional boxing. We were also keen to welcome Tyler starting out as a boxer. The recent show was a sell-out as attendees knew that Danny and all our boxers would demonstrate just how entertaining and exhilarating boxing is.”

If interested in training with Haynes and Miller Boxing contact Tristan Haynes on Facebook or e-mail thpaintersanddecorators@gmail.com.
