Capital holidaymakers flying with easyJet can now have their bags collected directly from their homes and checked in before arriving at Edinburgh Airport.<\/p>\n

The airline<\/a> has partnered with baggage technology company Airportr to launch the first service of its kind at a Scottish airport.<\/p>\n

The paid service allows travellers to bypass the baggage<\/a> drop queues and head straight to security, with their luggage securely transported by vetted drivers.<\/p>\n

Customers can track their bags digitally throughout the journey<\/a>, collecting them from the reclaim belt upon landing at their destination.<\/p>\n

The initiative follows similar operations already available to easyJet<\/a> passengers travelling through London Gatwick and Geneva.<\/p>\n

The service, which costs approximately \u00a324 to \u00a334 for two bags from a central Edinburgh location, sees a driver collect the luggage during a booked time slot. <\/p>\n

The bags are then sealed and the airline check-in process is completed off-site. Passengers receive an electronic receipt and can track their belongings digitally, with the service also providing up to \u00a31,300 in baggage protection.<\/p>\n

The launch coincides with Edinburgh Airport\u2019s wider investments in passenger processing, including a recent \u00a35.8m redesign of its check-in hall and the installation of 50 self-service kiosks.<\/p>\n

Peter Barnes, Chief Operating Officer at Edinburgh Airport, said: \u201cBeing the first airport in Scotland to offer home luggage collection gives passengers even more choice and convenience, particularly during the busy summer period when many people are heading away on holiday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin Doyle, easyJet\u2019s UK Country Manager, said: \u201cWith the summer holidays now underway, we want to make the journey as smooth as possible for our customers whether they\u2019re travelling for business or leisure.\u201d<\/p>\n
