\n\tThe release plan for Strange Darling<\/a> filmmaker JT Mollner<\/a>\u2018s next feature is getting fleshed out. <\/p>\n

\n\tSony Pictures<\/a> announced Monday that the creature horror movie Skeletons<\/a> is set for theatrical release on June 4, 2027. Brie Larson<\/a>, Kyle Gallner<\/a>, Daith\u00ed \u00d3 Harag\u00e1in, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, John Goodman<\/a> and Keith Carradine round out the cast for the film that the studio acquired as a package earlier this year in a bidding war out of the European Film Market. <\/p>\n

\n\tJ.J. Abrams<\/a> serves as a producer on the project. Mollner revised the script that has an initial draft from Brian Duffield<\/a> and is based on author Philip Fracassi\u2019s short story Fail-Safe. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the story is said to center on a young boy\u2019s relationship with his mother, who is secured in a cage every night.<\/p>\n

\n\tSkeletons began production last month, and Fracassi took to Instagram to celebrate the occasion after the project\u2019s circuitous path. Fracassi explained that he initially failed to find a publisher for the work that eventually earned praise when it was included in a short story collection. In 2022, Universal Pictures optioned the story, but the option lapsed two years later, at which point Sony prevailed in the bidding war that included Paramount, Warner Bros. and Neon.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m so excited to see this story on the big screen, and can\u2019t wait to visit set next month to take it all in,\u201d the author posted<\/a> on June 22. \u201cWhat an amazing journey.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tMollner wrote and directed Strange Darling, the indie thriller starring Fitzgerald and Gallner that hit theaters in August 2024.<\/p>\n
