{"id":1101981,"date":"2026-07-21T05:21:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T05:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1101981\/"},"modified":"2026-07-21T05:21:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T05:21:16","slug":"russia-expels-two-italian-diplomats-countrys-foreign-ministry-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1101981\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia expels two Italian diplomats, country&#8217;s foreign ministry says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russia said on Monday it had declared two Italian diplomats persona non grata, calling it a reciprocal measure in response to the expulsion of two Russian embassy staff in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/diaspora\/antisemitism\/article-903112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Italy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on July 9 that Rome had expelled two military attach\u00e9s at the Russian embassy in Italy who were allegedly involved in espionage activities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The Russian foreign ministry said in a statement that Vittorio Parrella, the assistant defense attache at the Italian embassy, and Davide D\u2019Aprile, an attache, were persona non grata and must leave Russia with their families within three days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">The ministry also said it had summoned Italian interim Charge d&#8217;Affaires Giovanni Scopa in connection with the expulsion of Russian embassy staff.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Russian Federation has expelled, without reason, the Italian military attache in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/tags\/moscow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Moscow<\/a> along with one of his collaborators. This is an act of blatant retaliation for the expulsion from Italy of two Russian military attach\u00e9s, who were indeed caught red-handed while carrying out espionage activities to the detriment of our national security,&#8221; Tajani wrote on X on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, <strong>t<\/strong>he Italian government decided to expel two military attach\u00e9s at the Russian Embassy in Italy who were allegedly involved in espionage activities after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-901758\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">two people were arrested<\/a> on charges of passing classified information to a Russian agent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article-paragraph-section article-body-paragraph\">Prosecutors said the main suspect was a former officer of Italy&#8217;s Carabinieri police force.
