{"id":110239,"date":"2025-05-17T23:26:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-17T23:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/110239\/"},"modified":"2025-05-17T23:26:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-17T23:26:12","slug":"a-new-take-on-empire-and-childhood-lore-with-freudian-typo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/110239\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Take on Empire and Childhood Lore with Freudian Typo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Artists Ghazaleh Avarzamani and Ali Ahadi explore the echoes of British imperialism through nursery rhymes, sculpture, and satire.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This summer, the <strong>Hayward Gallery<\/strong> will present <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/artplugged.co.uk\/hayward-gallery-freudian-typo-empire-childhood-lore\/\" class=\"ek-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Freudian Typo<\/a><\/strong>, a new exhibition by Iranian-Canadian artists <strong>Ghazaleh Avarzamani<\/strong> and <strong>Ali Ahadi<\/strong> that reconsiders Britain\u2019s imperial past through the lens of nursery rhymes.<\/p>\n<p>The show, produced in partnership with the RC Foundation, Taiwan (R.O.C.), uses familiar children\u2019s verses such as The Old Woman and Her Pig to explore themes of debt, exploitation and collapse. The complementary aspects of our work renders collaboration not merely as a beneficial addition but as an essential necessity. The cat gazes at a digital motorway sign bearing the phrase \u201cTruth and Reconsolidation\u201d, setting a tone of quiet irony. From there, the show unfolds across photography, sculpture, video and found objects.<\/p>\n<p>While the work is laced with wit and double meanings, its focus remains on the ongoing effects of empire \u2014 how they surface in language, symbols and institutions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"690\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Portrait-of-Ali-Ahadi-art-plugged_-1024x690.jpg\" alt=\"At the Hayward Gallery: A New Take on Empire and Childhood Lore with Freudian Typo\" class=\"wp-image-70086\"  \/>Portrait of Ali Ahadi. <br \/>Image courtesy the artist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Freudian Typo <\/strong>is the third presentation in the RC Foundation Project Space Exhibition Series, which highlights contemporary international voices. It is part of the Southbank Centre\u2019s broader effort to provide open access to the arts.
