A former Avon and Somerset Police officer who harassed a colleague has avoided jail.<\/p>\n

Jack Wood, 32, previously admitted charges of harassment and causing wasteful employment of police.<\/p>\n

Bristol Magistrates\u2019 Court<\/a> heard Wood sent 54 messages between September 2024 and October last year.<\/p>\n

These came from 14 fictitious email accounts, two fake Facebook accounts and his own personal email address.<\/p>\n

The messages targeted his colleagues at Avon and Somerset Police<\/a>, including his supervisor, Sergeant Maz Collacott-Nuur.<\/p>\n

District Judge Orla Austin, sitting at Southampton Magistrates\u2019 Court, sentenced Wood to a 12-month community order and 200 hours of unpaid work.<\/p>\n

She told Wood: \u201cYou repeatedly sent emails and communications targeting Sgt Collacott-Nuur and others within Avon and Somerset Police.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is clear your actions caused her significant distress.\u201d<\/p>\n

The judge added: \u201cThese offences were persistent, they were deliberate and they had a significant impact on her wellbeing and professional reputation.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were a police officer. It continued over a significant period.\u201d<\/p>\n

The judge imposed a two-year restraining order against Wood and ordered him to carry out a rehabilitation activity for up to 20 days.<\/p>\n

He must pay a \u00a3114 victim surcharge and \u00a385 contribution towards court costs.<\/p>\n

Prosecuting, Kevin Withey said Wood had joined Avon and Somerset Police in 2018, first serving in Bath.<\/p>\n

Wood moved to Bristol in 2020 and worked in the Ashley neighbourhood policing team, which Sgt Collacott-Nuur was asked to supervise in 2022.<\/p>\n

Mr Withey said: \u201cThe complainant, Sgt Collacott-Nuur, had previously been a colleague of the defendant when they had both been police constables.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, that relationship ran into difficulties when it would appear that Sgt Collacott-Nuur became effectively his supervising sergeant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe instruction and management that she undertook led to that relationship becoming strained because the defendant had a perception she was taking sides and favouring a female officer over him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wood was suspended from duty in June 2024 for an unrelated matter and began sending emails four months later, until his arrest in October 2025.<\/p>\n

His emails and Facebook posts were sent to the police\u2019s professional standards department, police and crime commissioner, chief constable, other stakeholders, local MPs and councillors, as well as the prime minister.<\/p>\n

Mr Withey said the messages were \u201ctargeting Sgt Collacott-Nuur and other officers and police employees\u201d while criticising the effectiveness of the Ashley neighbourhood policing team.<\/p>\n

Wood resigned from the police in January 2026, days before a misconduct hearing barred him from policing and said he would have been sacked if he had not already left.<\/p>\n

The misconduct panel found Wood guilty of gross misconduct in relation to a different case in which he persistently contacted a woman who rejected his advances.<\/p>\n

In a victim personal statement, Sgt Collacott-Nuur described how Wood had \u201cso much potential\u201d as a police officer before his offending.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has destroyed my joy of policing,\u201d she told the court.<\/p>\n

\u201cJack made everything dark and sinister.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m ashamed that I didn\u2019t trust my instincts earlier to protect myself, my team and the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sgt Collacott-Nuur said she had considered leaving her job of 26 years due to his actions.<\/p>\n

Wood, representing himself, apologised for his actions and told the court he had been unable to cope following his suspension from policing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI shouldn\u2019t have done it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s clearly not a normal way for a person to behave, especially a police officer. Out of the bottom of my heart, I am sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking after the case, Deputy Chief Constable Jon Reilly, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: \u201cWhile we may never know what motivated him to act in this way, it\u2019s clear his actions have had a significant and detrimental impact on his former colleagues, who he fully intended to undermine, harass and embarrass.<\/p>\n
