{"id":1105514,"date":"2026-07-22T23:53:15","date_gmt":"2026-07-22T23:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1105514\/"},"modified":"2026-07-22T23:53:15","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T23:53:15","slug":"china-comes-to-aliexpress-defense-after-massive-eu-fine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1105514\/","title":{"rendered":"China Comes To AliExpress\u2019 Defense After Massive EU Fine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/sourcing-journal\/trade\/china-export-growth-june-2026-27-percent-gdp-economy-trade-1239067175\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Beijing<\/a> lashed out at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/sourcing-journal\/industry-news\/amazon-european-union-digital-services-act-very-large-online-provider-court-1238859486\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">European Union<\/a> after the latter fined <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/sourcing-journal\/industry-news\/european-commission-aliexpress-alibaba-group-counterfeits-1239077399\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AliExpress<\/a>, the largest Chinese e-commerce platform in the bloc, more than half a billion euros over the uncurbed sale of <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/counterfeit-goods\/\" id=\"auto-tag_counterfeit-goods\" data-tag=\"counterfeit-goods\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">counterfeit goods<\/a> on its site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/china\/\" id=\"auto-tag_china\" data-tag=\"china\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a>\u2018s Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Wednesday, voicing its \u201cstrong dissatisfaction and serious concern\u201d over the decision of the European Commission to fine the company 550 million euros (over $627 million) under the Digital Services Act (DSA).<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/business-news\/government-trade\/chinas-consumption-future-small-luxuries-1239075443\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a> firmly opposes the EU\u2019s moves to erect digital barriers under the guise of platform regulation and adopt discriminatory measures to restrict and suppress the normal operations of Chinese e-commerce companies in Europe,\u201d a spokesperson for the ministry said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe statement was posted on the official website of the State Council Information Office of <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/footwear-news\/shoe-industry-news\/nike-china-digital-wholesale-retail-plan-analysts-react-1239078912\/\" id=\"related_article_link_china\" data-tag=\"china\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">China<\/a> (SCIO), the chief information office of the Chinese government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cChina will firmly support Chinese companies in safeguarding their rights via legal means and will take solid steps to protect their legitimate interests,\u201d the statement added, urging the EU to \u201cstop abusing its discretionary power through legal ambiguities.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission previously said AliExpress breached its obligations under the DSA, which required it to diligently assess and mitigate the risks of counterfeits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor example, the commission said the company failed to see how its own recommender and advertising systems had the propensity to \u201cexacerbate the spread of illegal products.\u201d The commission also said that the penalties against erring traders were not properly enforced, which allowed them to remain active even after the fact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe spread of counterfeit clothing, unsafe toys, dangerous cosmetics and other illegal and harmful products is not an unavoidable cost of shopping online\u2014it is a failure by AliExpress to comply with its obligations under the Digital Services Act,\u201d said EU\u2019s Tech Chief Henna Virkkunen previously.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAll these added up to the largest fine the commission has charged a company under the DSA since the law took effect in 2023.
