Leeds United<\/a> are pursuing legal action over claims that Leicester City\u2019s PSR breaches directly led to a loss of income after the 23\/24 season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A lot has changed since Leeds were beaten to promotion in Daniel Farke\u2019s first season at the club. We\u2019re now planning for our second campaign back in the top flight.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, two of the sides that pipped us are in the EFL. Southampton are still in the Championship, and Leicester City<\/a> are shockingly in League One.<\/p>\n

Leeds United pursuing legal action over loss of revenue after Leicester City\u2019s PSR breaches<\/p>\n

Leeds understandably feel aggrieved over the circumstances<\/a> of our failure to gain promotion. Leicester won the Championship title amidst the backdrop of PSR breaches that they were then found guilt of and charged for.<\/p>\n

As a result, Leeds have used the judgement pertaining to Burnley\u2019s legal action against Everton from 21\/22 as a reference to do likewise. The 49ers clearly believe that had Leicester not flagrantly breached PSR, they would not have gained enough of a sporting advantage to beat the Whites to promotion, therefore significantly impacting United\u2019s revenue going forward.<\/p>\n

The Athletic<\/a> reported that United are now in the process of pursuing legal action on the matter. This comes directly after the Toffees were ordered to pay over \u00a335million<\/a> to Burnley.<\/p>\n

What Leeds have to prove is that Leicester\u2019s breaches of PSR were enough of an advantage to account for a seven-point gap to us from that season. The Foxes ended on 97 points, to Leeds\u2019 90.<\/p>\n

\u201cI suspect that\u2026\u201d \u2013 Stefan Borson weighs in on Leeds United, Leicester City legal feud<\/p>\n

Football finance expert Stefan Borson has since delivered his verdict on Leeds\u2019 chances of a successful legal appeal.<\/p>\n

He believes it may be difficult for Leeds to make a convincing argument that Leicester\u2019s breaches would account for a seven-point deficit. However, he also expects that Leicester will nip this in the bud with an out-of-court settlement.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cI suspect that when you do the maths on it, Leicester will settle it and Leeds will accept a relatively small amount to settle it,\u201d Borson told Football Insider<\/a>. \u201cNow I might be wrong. They might go for it; there might be something we\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know about how it fits together.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cIt just seems to me that they\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0be sure in any way, even if Everton lose the appeal. So\u00a0all of\u00a0that stuff is\u00a0kind of a\u00a0good authority for how to look at this case, even in that scenario.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find it hard to believe that Leeds could have a strong level of confidence that they can get a hearing\u00a0to\u00a0agree with them that Leicester would have got seven or more points fewer. That feels like a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Obviously, a lot of this is immaterial right now as we laugh at Leicester\u2019s hilarious demise ever since this<\/a>. <\/p>\n

But, victims of blatant cheating ought to be compensated, and that\u2019s what happened here. While Leeds were abiding by PSR, Leicester weren\u2019t and directly benefitted from flouting the rules.<\/p>\n

That following summer, we were forced to sell Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, and Crysencio Summerville to make ends meet. Had we gone up, all of those players likely stay on the books.<\/p>\n

As Borson says, an out-of-court settlement wouldn\u2019t be a surprise. Leicester know they got away with it. Conversely, Leeds may not have enough of a case to take them to the cleaners.<\/p>\n
