Nigerian music executive and talent manager, Ubi Franklin, has revealed that he battled depression and made several suicide attempts after the collapse of his marriage to Nollywood actress, Lilian Esoro.\n<\/p>\n
In an episode of his podcast, Talks with Ubi Franklin, released on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Franklin\u00a0described the period as one of the darkest moments of his life.\n<\/p>\n
Recalling how their relationship began, Franklin said he met Esoro on January 4, 2015, proposed to her on March 19 of the same year and organised a dinner to celebrate the engagement.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter I engaged her, I set up a nice dinner at the Red Restaurant of Eko Hotel. I invited all my friends, big boys, everybody. Guess what? She didn\u2019t turn up. She had dropped the rings and left. I was so embarrassed because it was a big thing on social media,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Franklin said Esoro later returned and explained that she had developed cold feet about the engagement.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cShe said she just had cold feet. Sometimes people feel they are ready for something, but when it finally happens, they realise they are not,\u201d he recalled.\n<\/p>\n
He said they eventually reconciled and got married after she indicated she was ready to proceed with the wedding.<\/p>\n
However, despite their efforts to make the marriage work, the union later ended in divorce.\n<\/p>\n
Franklin said the divorce took a heavy emotional toll on him, leaving him depressed and suicidal. <\/p>\n
He added that there were several occasions when he attempted to end his life but was stopped by his cousin.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI remember one time, I bought a red CLA, and I drove that car to Third Mainland Bridge to go and commit suicide. The only luck I had was my cousin, my brother, Omini Stitches, who came to save me.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cI was so embarrassed. I didn\u2019t know what to do. I felt like, \u2018What have I done to deserve all of this?\u2019 I had a good career going for myself\u2026 I just felt like it was time for me to settle down,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n
Despite the painful experience, Franklin said he and Esoro chose not to engage in public disputes after their separation and have remained committed to co-parenting their son.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cWe didn\u2019t go on social media to fight ourselves. We became good friends\u2026 We try to live a good life for our son,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He described their son as the greatest blessing to come from the marriage.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cRegardless of all the pain, I believe that the best result that I got from that is my son. He\u2019s still doing very well,\u201d Franklin said.\n<\/p>\n
The talent manager also urged people going through difficult moments in their marriages or relationships not to lose hope.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019re watching this and you\u2019re going through something, whatever happens to your marriage or your relationship, it\u2019s not the end of life.
