Pregnant women, parents, guardians, carers, and those who have had babies in the last 12 months at Walsall Manor Hospital, are being asked to take part in a research study.<\/p>\n
The study is called ADAPT-Heat and has been set up to hear about views about hot weather in England during pregnancy and the first month of a baby\u2019s life.<\/p>\n
It is sponsored by Newcastle University and in Walsall, Dr Yomna Salem, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, is the Principal Investigator for the study.<\/p>\n
The aim of this research is to better understand the impacts of high outdoor temperature on pregnancy and newborn health in England.<\/p>\n
Dr Salem said: \u201cWe\u2019ve already had a few spells of really hot weather so far this summer and we do know that in a heatwave there is more risk of dehydration, fainting, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut more research into the effects of really hot weather on pregnant women and their babies in those first few weeks of life will help us gain a better understanding of the impacts. These findings will help us to develop guidance for future parents and carers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWomen\u2019s and children\u2019s health are such important areas of research, and we\u2019d encourage anyone eligible to support this study in Walsall. Participants are asked to complete a short survey which should take a maximum of 30 minutes to do. Thank you in advance to anyone who does so for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who can take part in the survey?<\/strong><\/p>\n Women (16 years old +) living in England who:<\/p>\n If any of the above apply to you, please share your thoughts and experiences in a 20-30 minute survey. There is also a chance to win a \u00a350 shopping voucher.<\/p>\n This research will help develop guidance for future parents, guardians and carers.<\/p>\n\n
