Sheffield United<\/a> defender Jamal Baptiste may have a pathway into the first-team after impressive pre-season.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> defender Jamal Baptiste could be edging closer to a regular first-team role after an eye-catching pre-season under Chris Wilder<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The centre-back, who joined SUFC from Manchester City in 2024, has started all three of the club\u2019s pre-season fixtures so far. His inclusion ahead of Mark McGuinness<\/a> and Nils Zatterstrom<\/a> has raised eyebrows, with both defenders seemingly surplus to requirements.<\/p>\n

It has been a relatively quiet transfer window at Bramall Lane. Winger Romelle Donovan<\/a> and experienced full-back Matt Doherty<\/a> are the only arrivals to date, but Wilder remains in the market for another centre-half.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United are believed to be interested in landing Leicester City defender Harry Souttar<\/a>, although the Foxes\u2019 reported \u00a310m asking price could prove a stumbling block.<\/p>\n

Is Jamal Baptiste ready to step into the Sheffield United<\/a> limelight?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> aren\u2019t afraid to put the academy talent into the first team. Last season, the Blades had one of the youngest sides in the division and have seen a constant flow of academy graduates making it into the senior ranks.<\/p>\n

Sydie Peck<\/a>, Oliver Arblaster, Andre Brooks and Femi Seriki were all regular names on the team sheet last season and have all progressed through the ranks at Shirecliffe.<\/p>\n

With SUFC needing two centre-backs, if Zatterstrom and McGuinness were to depart, the space is wide open for Baptiste to capitalise on what has been an impressive summer for himself.<\/p>\n

The Blades shown their belief in the 22-year-old last year when they rewarded him with a \u2018long-term contract\u2019 after an impressive first season with the club, where he made his first team debut in the FA Cup to Cardiff City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wilder and his staff may go onto show that belief in him again, and first team opportunities could become more frequent as he looks to kick on in his career.<\/p>\n

Jamal Baptiste could be a smart cut-price option for Sheffield United<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

With Sheffield United<\/a> no longer benefiting from Premier League parachute payments, the club may need to rely more heavily on players already within the squad rather than making expensive additions.<\/p>\n

Baptiste is a player who fits the bill and has experience under his belt after he spent last season on loan with Rotherham United<\/a>.<\/p>\n
