That figure represents just a 32% drop from its <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/box-office\/the-odyssey-box-office-christopher-nolan-opening-weekend-shatters-expectations-1236815861\/\">excellent $124 million debut<\/a>. Through two weekends of release, \u201cThe Odyssey\u2019s\u201d North American total should land around $283 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOver opening weekend, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d earned $264.1 million worldwide, an outstanding feat considering it\u2019s an adult-skewing drama that clocks in at almost three hours. That godly haul was <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/box-office\/the-odyssey-christopher-nolan-biggest-global-debut-1236815981\/\">Nolan\u2019s best global debut ever<\/a>, legging out \u201cThe Dark Knight Rises,\u201d which eared $249 million back in 2012. That film also happens to be the director\u2019s highest-grossing film ever, at just over a $1 billion. At this pace, \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d is gunning for that record as well.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSecond place went to the theatrical presentation of \u201cHadestown: The Musical.\u201d The eight-time Tony winner pulled in an estimated $4 million on Friday. Rival projections have it earning $9 million through the weekend. Starring Reeve Carney, Eva Noblezada, Patrick Page, Andr\u00e9 De Shields and Amber Gray, \u201cHadestown\u201d is a musical retelling of the Orpheus-Eurydice and Hades-Persephone myths. Crosswalk served as the distributor for the movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDisney\u2019s live-action \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/moana\/\" id=\"auto-tag_moana\" data-tag=\"moana\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Moana<\/a>\u201d took third with just $3.1 million domestically on Friday. Through its third weekend, \u201cMoana\u201d is eyeing an estimated $10.8 million, which would push its domestic haul to $102 million. It\u2019s a disappointing result considering the film carries a $250 million price tag, and it could end up costing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/box-office\/moana-box-office-bomb-disney-live-action-remakes-1236810179\/\">Disney $100 million<\/a>. Summer 2026 has been up-and-down for the Mouse House. While they\u2019ve scored with \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2\u201d ($688 million) and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/toy-story-5\/\" id=\"auto-tag_toy-story-5\" data-tag=\"toy-story-5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toy Story 5<\/a>,\u201d under-performers like \u201cMoana\u201d and \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d ($340 million against a $165 million budget) have proved costly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cToy Story 5\u201d slotted at No. 4 with $2.9 million domestically on Friday. By Sunday, it should make $10.1 million, according to rival estimates. That would push the legacy sequel\u2019s domestic total to a stellar $448.6 million through six weekends of release. \u201cToy Story 5\u201d is expected to cross the $1 billion mark any day now and overtake \u201cToy Story 4\u201d ($1.07 billion) as the franchise\u2019s highest earner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFifth place went to \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters,\u201d which added $2.8 million domestically on Friday. Through its fourth weekend of release, the animated adventure should gross $9.5 million, pushing its North American gains to about $155 million. Despite being a relatively low earner compared to franchise favorites like 2015\u2019s \u201cMinions\u201d ($1.15 billion worldwide) and 2022\u2019s \u201cMinions: The Rise of Gru\u201d ($940 million worldwide), \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters\u201d is holding strong, dropping just 30% from last week\u2019s total.
