He was the one who launched various star kids like Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor and many others. Recently, he launched Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan through the Netflix film, Nadaaniyaan. Sridevi’s younger daughter, Kushi Kapoor, played the female lead in it. The film was not only criticised heavily but also trolled brutally by the audience and critics. Audiences called Ibrahim and Kushi wooden faces, called their acting terrible and opined that they have gotten into acting only because of their film background but have no skills. They further alleged that Karan Johar just launches star kids with no talent, which is like an injustice to people with no background who are waiting for an opportunity to showcase their talent.

However, Karan Johar denied these allegations and said that many YouTubers made multiple negative reviews on Nadaniyaan, just for more engagement and more views on YouTube. He said that if people didn’t like the film, they should say it once and move on. He added that it didn’t happen with Nadaaniyaan. Regarding the allegation that his banner Dharma Productions launches only star kids, Karan said that there is no truth in it by citing Lakshya and Raghav, who shot to fame with his production venture, Kill.

Speaking about trolls on Ibrahim and Kushi in a recent interview, Karan Johar said, “Let them be in their own space. They don’t need anything from you. If you didn’t like it, say the same and move on. Why are you going on and on?” He said that when he asked the same to a few YouTubers, they told him that they are getting more views and engagement for bashing the film, and thus, they are doing multiple videos to run negative propaganda on the film.

Karan went on to add that people think of Ibrahim and Kushi as privileged star kids who don’t get affected by negative reviews. He said that is not the case, and even if they get hurt and feel bad, when people repeatedly troll them for their work.

Karan also denied that Dharma Productions is only promoting star kids. He denied those statements and called them misconceptions. He said that 80% of actors introduced by Dharma are not star kids. He said Lakshya and Raghav Juyal from Kill, are given massive opportunities, and why are no one is pointing out that they are launched by Dharma.

He questioned people’s hypocrisy in talking about Ibrahim and Kushi and not talking about Lakshya and Raghav. “Kill went to the Toronto Film Festival and won the ‘People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness’. You won’t talk about it. You don’t talk about that. You will talk about Naadaaniyaan. So, I’m like okay, if that’s the way you wanna play, play your way. I’ll just do what I have to: put my head down and work,” he stated.

Related

Tags Ibrahim Ali Khan Karan Johar Khushi Kapoor

Director-Producer Karan Johar often gets criticised for launching star kids in his movies.
