A derelict house which once starred in a BBC <\/a>dystopian drama series is now up for grabs at \u00a31.6 million. The huge run-down property<\/a> in Stockport <\/a>featured as the home of the Lyons family in the 2019 miniseries Years and Years.<\/p>\n Written by Russell T Davies, the episodes are set between 2019 and 2034 and follow the lives of the Manchester-based Lyons, who witness tumultuous global affairs, economic instability and technological advances.<\/p>\n All six episodes of the miniseries, which stars, Emma Thompson, Russell Tovey, Jessica Hynes and Rory Kinnear, have recently been added to Netflix.<\/p>\n Most of the scenes were shot across Greater Manchester, with the ‘Ferncliff’ mansion on Mauldeth Road in Heaton Mersey used as the location house for the family.<\/p>\n Described as one of the ‘finest estates in The Heatons to ever be listed’, the property has now been listed for sale on Rightmove – but it is available to cash buyers only.<\/p>\n Spanning around 7,000 square foot, the mansion now requires an enthusiastic buyer to take on a ‘back to brick’ renovation project.<\/p>\n The gothic-looking home, which was built in 1986, has 10 bedrooms and five reception rooms, but many have fallen into a ‘sad state of disrepair’.<\/p>\n Despite this, it still retains many of its original period features and local estate agents say it has a lot of potential.<\/p>\n Philip James Kennedy, who is marketing the house on Rightmove, says: “A one of a kind back to brick project, Ferncliff is undeniably one of the landmark properties in the Heatons on Mauldeth Road.<\/p>\n “Built in 1869 this prestigious property boasts spectacular gothic style brick elevations with decorative stone finishes. Extending to nearly 7000 sq ft and retaining a host of original architectural features, Ferncliff offers the perfect opportunity to renovate back to one of the finest homes in the area.”<\/p>\n The house is made up of a grand entrance hallway leading to three reception rooms and a 26 foot formal dining room, all overlooking the formal gardens. There is also breakfast room and kitchen area on this floor<\/p>\n On the two upper floors are ten bedrooms with high ceilings with ‘considerable scope’ to be remodelled.<\/p>\n There are also unconverted cellars spanning the entire footprint of the property and could be ideal for conversion, subject to planning.<\/p>\n Included in the price is also an original detached coach house which could be converted into separate living accommodation – also subject to relevant planning permissions.<\/p>\n The house is accessed through double gates with a carriage driveway leading to parking areas.<\/p>\n The estate agent adds: “The property is in a sad state of disrepair and requiring a substantial cash investment. Only suitable for clients confident in refurbishing a property of this size.<\/p>\n “This residence is being sold as a renovation project to be retained as a personal residence and not a multiple unit development.<\/p>\n “Not suitable to be occupied until the work is completed. All serious enquiries to Managing Director Rob Kennedy.”<\/p>\n Somebody who recognised the mansion as the house from Years and Years shared the listing on Reddit, writing: “Years and Years house – yours for \u00a31.6m cash\u2026 As the tv show Years & Years is being promoted again, here\u2019s the big house from it.<\/p>\n “It\u2019s fair to say it needs a bit of work in reality, but I\u2019d rather have this for the \u00a32.5-3m? it\u2019d cost all in than a McMansion in Prestbury.”<\/p>\n One Reddit user responded: “It’s a nice house. If I had the money I’d buy it, better than buying one thats already been renovated to someone else’s taste.”<\/p>\n @NortonBurns also said: “Sheer amount of work aside, I love it. I’ve always lived in old Victorian piles – but never anything anywhere close to this size.<\/p>\n @dangermouse13 wrote: “I\u2019ve mentally renovated this with my imaginary lottery win about 20 times.”<\/p>\n @ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp added: “\u00a31.6 million in cash and another couple hundred grand to get in a livable condition.
