Britain’s high streets are facing another wave of store closures as major retailers and charities continue to scale back their physical presence.<\/p>\n

H&M, Decathlon, Morrisons, the British Heart Foundation and heritage shoe retailer Charles Clinkard have all confirmed branch closures in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

The closures come as retailers continue to contend with weaker consumer spending, rising operating costs and declining footfall, with more stores expected to shut throughout the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

The British Heart Foundation has announced the largest programme of closures, confirming plans to shut 150 shops across Britain.<\/p>\n

It has formally identified 87 branches for closure, with those stores due to close by March 2027.<\/p>\n

The remaining stores are still under review, with any further closures expected to take place by March 2028.<\/p>\n

The confirmed closures span England, Scotland and Wales, with branches in Aberdare, Bangor, Sunderland and Swansea among those affected.<\/p>\n

London stores in Balham, Camden, Fulham, Hammersmith and Finchley are also scheduled to close.<\/p>\n

Several British Heart Foundation home stores are included in the plans, with sites in Brighton, Crawley, Chatham, Hull, Harrow and other locations set to cease trading by next spring.<\/p>\n

Sporting goods retailer Decathlon has also closed its Queens Square store in Crawley after more than 10 years in the town.<\/p>\n

A notice displayed at the branch said: “Thank you for being a loyal customer! You can still find us online or come see us at our Croydon and Brighton stores”.<\/p>\n

Charles Clinkard has also shut its Summertown store on Banbury Road in Oxford.<\/p>\n

The family-run footwear retailer, which was founded in 1924, has previously attributed trading difficulties to changing consumer habits and wider pressures facing the high street.<\/p>\n

Morrisons has also begun implementing plans announced in May to close 100 of its Morrisons Daily convenience stores.<\/p>\n

Its Woodley branch in Berkshire, which had been open for fewer than two years, has already closed.<\/p>\n

The supermarket also shut its Stokesley High Street store in North Yorkshire on July 18.<\/p>\n

The branch had traded as a McColl’s for decades before Morrisons acquired the business in 2022.<\/p>\n

Despite the closures, Morrisons has said it still intends to open 300 new stores.<\/p>\n

H&M has also continued reducing its global store estate after confirming plans to close 130 branches worldwide.<\/p>\n

The Swedish fashion retailer, which also owns brands including Cos, ARKET and Weekday, reduced its total number of stores from 4,166 to 4,036 over the past year.<\/p>\n

The majority of the closures took place across Asia, Oceania and Africa, where 97 stores shut.<\/p>\n

Western Europe lost 20 stores, while the Nordic countries saw 17 closures and Eastern Europe accounted for a further four.<\/p>\n

According to H&M’s half-year results for 2026, further store closures are expected in the coming months.<\/p>\n
