Charli xcx image acquired by London&#8217;s National Portrait Gallery &#8211; The Art Newspaper"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The National Portrait Gallery is having a brat summer\u2014in other words, the venerable London institution has announced the acquisition of a new portrait of the boundary-pushing singer Charli xcx. <\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The eye-catching photograph, which shows the singer leaning back against a wall wearing a white crop top and black jeans, was taken in 2024 by the UK photographer and director Harley Weir. Weir\u2019s photograph of Charli xcx is the latest portrait acquisition supported by the Bukhman Foundation through\u00a0the Collecting the Now\u00a0initiative (the foundation gave \u00a31m towards the contemporary acquisitions fund).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"pt-dp-p font-text-light font-light text-lg leading-normal tracking-wide mb-base last:mb-0\" itemprop=\"text\">The pic of the top-notch pop star\u00a0is on display in the History Makers space (Room 33) which \u201ccelebrates figures who have shaped contemporary culture and public life\u201d, the gallery says.
