\"Fable<\/a><\/p>\n

Microsoft first announced its new Fable<\/a> game, a reboot of the satirical RPG series by Forza<\/a> maker Playground Games, back at E3<\/strong><\/a> 2020<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seven years later, the title will finally launch on PS5. That\u2019s a long ass time.<\/p>\n

To be fair to Xbox Game Studios, the title likely would have launched this holiday if it wasn\u2019t for GTA 6<\/a>, but the company said it was delaying it<\/a> to give it the \u201cdedicated moment it deserves\u201d.<\/p>\n

Its early access will now launch a day after Sony\u2019s own God of War Laufey<\/a>, which is coming on 16th February. It\u2019s going to be interesting to see just how much that impacts the sales potential<\/a> of the long-awaited RPG.<\/p>\n

On that topic, Windows Central<\/a> writer Jez Corden cites sources that say Fable has \u201crun uncomfortably beyond budget\u201d. With a seven year development cycle, that\u2019s not a huge surprise.<\/p>\n

To cut Playground Games some slack here, it did have to re-engineer its proprietary ForzaTech engine to support a completely different type of open world game, which can\u2019t have been a small feat.<\/p>\n

And based on the gameplay snippets I\u2019ve seen, I do think this looks really interesting<\/a>, with its blend of life sim elements and traditional fantasy RPG tropes.<\/p>\n

I do wonder how much God of War Laufey is going to eat the game\u2019s lunch, though \u2013 particularly on PS5.<\/p>\n

Is another delay even possible here? I guess Microsoft has a few more months to decide if that\u2019s something it wants to do.<\/p>\n
