The lingering concern is what if he breaks down after a great injury-free run?

Leeds need a contingency, and that means considering signing a new striker to make sure we’re not relying too much on Calvert-Lewin.

Leeds United must sign new striker to avoid Dominic Calvert-Lewin nightmare

Last summer, Leeds were in a position where we had to take some risks with our transfer strategy. That meant in order to sign players within our budget that were of the requisite quality, some of them came with injury concerns.

Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor, James Justin, and Lukas Nmecha all were labelled as major risks. But, all four had a crucial impact on our survival.

Leeds, though, shouldn’t be pinning our hopes on that level of good fortune two seasons in a row. Therefore, we could do with a new striker that can take a lot of that burden.

Additionally, Leeds ought to start putting some consideration into players with resale value. Tarik Muharemovic at £34million is absolutely that sort of investment, as James Trafford would be too.

David Ornstein reveals Chelsea willing to sell Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha – Leeds United must be alert

Market opportunities across the Premier League are no doubt something the 49ers are keeping a close eye on. Players out of contract soon, or players that are surplus to requirements might be worth exploring.

Fabrizio Romano, among others, has reported that Chelsea are in talks to sign Brighton’s Danny Welbeck. As a result, the Blues are now willing to consider sales for fellow strikers Liam Delap and Emmanuel Emegha.

Shockingly, neither have even been at Chelsea more than 12 months. Delap joined from Ipswich Town last summer, while Emegha hasn’t even kicked a ball at Stamford Bridge, joining this summer from (you guessed it) Strasbourg in a pre-agreed transfer.

Xabi Alonso’s overhaul at Chelsea has seen a shift in transfer policy, and these two youthful options are seemingly not part of the plans.

In turn, Leeds should be on alert to a signing here. Many fans would understandably turn their noses up at the thought of signing Delap, given his woeful campaign for Chelsea, but his Ipswich form should give you a greater overview of what he’d offer in this Leeds side.

Conversely, Emegha’s Ligue 1 form previously would’ve had him out of Leeds’ reach, hence a move to Chelsea in the first place. However, he picked up an injury last season to see him miss 20 games, ending up scoring four in 10 Ligue 1 outings.

As Leeds scour Europe for a new striker – including Levante’s Carlos Espi – these two Chelsea men are likely to enter the radar.

            0%
Love

            0%
Funny

            0%
Wow

            0%
Sad

            0%
Angry

Leeds United are going to be looking at a new striker this summer, and Chelsea are listening to…

[8814
748,885,33761,25764,136927,393,4884,1860,2922,2969,142361,142362,16,15
post-1114780","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-leeds","tag-britain","tag-chelsea","tag-dominic-calvert-lewin","tag-elland-road","tag-emmanuel-emegha","tag-england","tag-great-britain","tag-leeds","tag-leeds-united","tag-liam-delap","tag-lufc","tag-the-whites","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom
["GET
