And the agencies that act on behalf of players are attracting massive valuations.<\/p>\n<p>The Team on course for full takeover<\/p>\n<p>The Team \u2013 which was known as Wasserman until a rebrand earlier this year \u2013 is one of the biggest agencies in sports and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>It represents hundreds of athletes worldwide, including dozens of golfers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/ryan-fox-reveals-what-he-told-his-caddie-on-the-18th-tee-before-making-a-birdie-to-win-the-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Fox, the underdog winner at the Open Championship<\/a>, is on their roster, for example.<\/p>\n<p>Probably the two biggest names on The Team\u2019s books are probably <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/topic\/cameron-smith\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cam Smith<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hitc.com\/topic\/nelly-korda\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nelly Korda<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2287705998-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open 2026 - Final Round\" \/>Photo by Tom Dulat\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>As reported by numerous outlets, the private equity firm Providence Equity is close to taking full control of The Team.<\/p>\n<p>MORE SPORTS BUSINESS STORIES<\/p>\n<p>Providence Equity already owns roughly 60 per cent of the company\u2019s shares but now wants to consolidate its ownership in a move that values the business at $3.4bn.<\/p>\n<p>If completed, it would be the most recent in a long list of buyouts of sports agencies in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>What it would mean for the likes of Smith, Korda and Fox is unclear.<\/p>\n<p>Join Our Newsletter<\/p>\n<p>Receive exclusive football transfer news and updates twice a week to your mailbox<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Follow us on Google Discover Golfers are generally among the most business-savvy sportspeople.
