{"id":111843,"date":"2025-05-18T13:58:09","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T13:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/111843\/"},"modified":"2025-05-18T13:58:09","modified_gmt":"2025-05-18T13:58:09","slug":"state-pensioners-must-update-dwp-about-summer-plans-under-holiday-rule-as-3-9-in-pension-credit-at-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/111843\/","title":{"rendered":"State pensioners must update DWP about summer plans under &#8216;holiday&#8217; rule as \u00a33.9 in Pension Credit at risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>State pensioners are being reminded of an important Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) rule that could impact their eligibility for benefit support from the Government department.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/pension-credit-applications-winter-fuel-payment-dwp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claimants of Pension Credit<\/a>, a top-up benefit for older Britons on low income, who live outside the UK beyond the permitted timeframes will not receive payments which they otherwise would be entitled to.<\/p>\n<p>Those of state pension in receipt of this support may be unaware of this crucial DWP &#8220;holiday&#8221; rule regarding travel outside of mainland Britain, which could lose them up to \u00a33,900 a year on average.<\/p>\n<p>Through Pension Credit, a weekly guarantee of up to \u00a3227.10 is awarded to claimants who are single, while couples get an amount worth up to \u00a3346.60 a week thanks to the benefit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"3d48d\" data-rm-shortcode-id=\"3929ba96f145a39307730e4c7b16c5ae\" data-rm-shortcode-name=\"rebelmouse-image\" class=\"rm-shortcode rm-lazyloadable-image \" lazy-loadable=\"true\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%201600%20900'%3E%3C\/svg%3E\" data-runner-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/woman-looking-worried-and-dwp-sign.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" alt=\"Woman looking worried and DWP sign\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Older Britons are being reminded about a Pension Credit rule <\/p>\n<p>GETTY <\/p>\n<p>On its website, the DWP states: &#8220;We may pay Pension Credit for up to four weeks while you&#8217;re temporarily away from Great Britain and we may pay for up to eight weeks if the absence is in connection with a death.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For those receiving medical treatment or medically approved convalescence abroad, Pension Credit payments may continue for up to 26 weeks but only in these specific circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The department noted : &#8220;You should tell us before you go if you&#8217;re going to leave Great Britain for any reason at all, even if you&#8217;ll only be away for a short time. This includes if you go to Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Beyond travel rules, pensioners must report various changes in their circumstances to avoid penalties. Get in touch by emailing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/mailto:money@gbnews.uk\" title=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/mailto:money@gbnews.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">money@gbnews.uk.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Changes to benefits received by anyone in the household must also be declared, whether it is a new benefit or another payment being stopped. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbnews.com\/money\/pension-credit-dwp-winter-fuel-payment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pension Credit overpayments have soared to a record high<\/a> of 10.3 per cent for the financial year ending April 2025, according to new data from the DWP.<\/p>\n<p>This represents more than \u00a3610million of taxpayers&#8217; money being overpaid, a significant increase from \u00a3530million (9.7 per cent) in the previous year. <\/p>\n<p>With fraud accounting for nearly half of these overpayments at \u00a3270million, up from \u00a3210million a year ago, the situation demands urgent attention from authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Claimant error accounted for \u00a3240million of the overpayments, rising from \u00a3210million in the previous period.<\/p>\n<p>Official errors, meanwhile, contributed the smallest portion at \u00a3100million, actually decreasing from \u00a311 million previously.<\/p>\n<p>The two main causes behind these costly overpayments have been identified in the DWP data.
