{"id":111893,"date":"2025-05-18T14:24:12","date_gmt":"2025-05-18T14:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/111893\/"},"modified":"2025-05-18T14:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-18T14:24:12","slug":"more-than-a-dozen-charged-following-celtic-title-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/111893\/","title":{"rendered":"More than a dozen charged following Celtic title celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police charged 15 people with a variety of offences following \u201csignificant disruption\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Glasgow;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Glasgow<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldscotland.com\/topics\/celtic-fc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Celtic;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Celtic<\/a> fans celebrated the team\u2019s title win.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of fans descended on Glasgow Cross in the city centre after the team\u2019s final game of the season against St Mirren on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>In what has become a regular occurrence in recent years, fans took over the area, which was eventually closed to traffic, with some fans climbing traffic lights and the Mercat Tower.<\/p>\n<p>Police and the club had previously urged fans to stay away following disruption in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Police say there were nine arrests on Saturday, three in the stadium and a further six in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, 15 people were charged with offences relating to carrying pyrotechnics or offensive weapons, as well as assault and public order offences and will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.<\/p>\n<p>A further six penalty notices and four recorded police warnings were handed out, officers say.<\/p>\n<p>Chief superintendent Emma Croft, the divisional commander for the greater Glasgow division, said a \u201csignificant majority\u201d of those in attendance were \u201chighly intoxicated\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile some fans respected the appeal from police and partners to act responsibly, thousands didn\u2019t and descended on Glasgow Cross, causing significant disruption to the city,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis mass assembly of people also had an impact on some local businesses who took the decision to close early or completely as a consequence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA significant majority of those who congregated were highly intoxicated, with evidence of drug misuse requiring medical intervention. A number of people were admitted to local hospitals as a consequence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were numerous incidents of anti-social behaviour, including the reckless discharge of pyrotechnics. Several people scaled the Mercat Tower and other street furniture requiring assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOfficers took decisive action to clear the area and prevent further disorder when it was safe to do so.
