McDonalds<\/a> has opened a “milestone” new restaurant spanning more than 10,000sqft, said to be its largest in Europe. The restaurant will be located in an airport zone exclusively for non-Schengen country passengers, meaning primarily British customers will get to explore the mega-restaurant.<\/p>\n

The 10,765 sq ft restaurant – roughly equivalent to the floor space of three tennis courts – will be located in Palma de Mallorca<\/a> Airport at Level 930, as part of the airport\u2019s wider renovation efforts. The fast food venture will include table service and a McCafe for the estimated 750,000 British tourists<\/a> who visit Majorca<\/a> each summer.<\/p>\n

Eight digital kiosks and production lines will also be in use at the restaurant, which is expected to create 200 jobs in addition to the 1,000 McDonald\u2019s employees across the Balearic Islands.<\/a><\/p>\n

McDonald\u2019s Spain chief restaurant officer \u00c1ngel Castillo stated: \u201cThis opening represents a new milestone and another example of our commitment to the Balearic Islands.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called the region \u201can area of strategic interest for the company where we already have over 20 restaurants\u201d.<\/p>\n

Palma de Mallorca airport is undergoing a major revamp, scheduled for completion in 2026, which is now more than halfway through and progressing on schedule, according to Spanish airport authority, Aena.<\/p>\n

A major milestone is the security checkpoint, which is now on the same floor as check-in, and 44 passenger security check lines will gradually be put into service this winter. New equipment means liquids and electronics won\u2019t have to be removed from bags.<\/p>\n

The UK\u2019s biggest McDonald\u2019s is located in Formby, Merseyside, which has nearly 300 seats. The largest McDonald\u2019s in the world is the mammoth 19,000 sqft venue in Orlando, Florida.<\/p>\n

McDonald\u2019s first quarter 2025 global sales dipped by 1%, including a 3.6% drop in the US and a 1% fall in international markets.<\/p>\n
