IWC<\/a> is busy this year rolling out new iterations of its Ingenieur<\/a>, a collection that underwent a major revamp in 2023 to resurface with its G\u00e9rald Genta heritage intact. The watch we\u2019re introducing today comes with a fun story involving actor Brad Pitt and the upcoming movie F1. What was initially a prop watch for Pitt\u2019s character has inspired the real deal: a special 1,000-piece edition of the Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a green dial.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 is one of the most anticipated releases of 2025. Shot with actors driving real race cars in real Grand Prix races, Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), an F1 driver, has retired after an accident. Team owner Ruben (Javier Bardem) encourages Sonny to return to the track to mentor a rookie driver for the Apex Grand Prix Team. During the film, Sonny wears a 1976-inspired Ingenieur SL 1832 with a bespoke green dial. A collaboration between IWC, Pitt and Cloister Watch Company, the prop watch is now a reality.<\/p>\n

G\u00e9rald Genta\u2019s version of the antimagnetic tool watch<\/a>, now a cult collector\u2019s watch, resulted in the 1976 release of the Ingenieur SL reference 1832, also known as the Jumbo. Distinguished by its large 40mm case, wide bored bezel with five functional screws, sculpted integrated H-link bracelet and grid dial, Genta\u2019s luxury sports watch take on the Ingenieur has served as the blueprint for its revival.<\/p>\n

Crafted in stainless steel, the 100m water-resistant case is 40mm wide and 10.8mm high, decorated with brushed and polished finishes. Like the Aqua version of the Ingenieur Automatic 40, the middle link of the bracelet is polished for extra pizzazz. The star of the show is the light green, slightly metallic dial with its grid pattern composed of alternating blocks with horizontal lines and small boxes. This attractive chequerboard effect plays with the light and animates the dial endlessly. The gold indices are applied to the flange and treated with Super-LumiNova, as are the golden hour and minute hands. The date window at 3 o\u2019clock is framed.<\/p>\n

A sealed caseback hides IWC\u2019s proprietary calibre 32111, an automatic with pawl winding, a 4Hz frequency and an impressive 5 days or 120 hours of power reserve. Like the original, a soft-iron case shields the movement from magnetism. The Ingenieur Automatic 40 with a green dial is a limited edition of 1,000 pieces, priced at EUR 14,200<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
