With less than a week to go before\u00a0Star Wars: Visions Presents \u2013 The Ninth Jedi debuts on Disney Plus, new details about characters, new and old, have been revealed \u2013 including a new Sith villain named Gennoh, who will be introduced as a key antagonist to the Jedi heroes when the story of The Ninth Jedi expands into a full series.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Ninth Jedi is a full-series continuation of the short films from Star Wars: Visions Volume 1 and 3 set in an alternate galaxy far, far away, featuring an entirely new cast of characters in a far future where the Jedi are thought extinct, and the galaxy is consumed by war. The story centers around Lah Kara, the daughter of a \u2018sabersmith\u2019 who is sent to deliver a batch of lightsabers, a long-lost weapon, when agents of the Dark Side capture her father, and she goes on a journey where she learns to believe in herself and embraces the path of the Jedi.<\/p>\n

A new official character guide on StarWars.com<\/a> recaps characters from the previous two shorts but also adds new information and reveals details about new characters, so let\u2019s have a look at what new information we\u2019ve learned.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lah Zhima and Margrave Juro<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Neither of these are new characters, but we learn a bit more about their backstory here.\u00a0Lah Zhima, Kara\u2019s father, manufactured lightsabers, and we had hints that he knew the Force in\u00a0The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope, but other than that we know very little about him. Margrave Juro was the mysterious leader who is seeking to rebuild the Jedi Order, but we learned very little about his past.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now we know that they were both Jedi Knights and that Juro and Lah Zhima trained together under a Jedi Master named Reno Tsutara. This gives a deeper level to why Margrave Juro entrusted the task of lightsaber building to Lah Zhima and possibly why Lah Zhima was living on Hy Izlan, a planet ruled over by Margrave Juro. The series will follow Kara\u2019s attempt to rescue her father from the Jedi Hunters who took him, but now we know this is personal for Juro as well.<\/p>\n

General Nawaam<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nawaam is the key antagonist in the series, an overarching villain only hinted at in the short films, sending hunters to exterminate the Jedi. In the trailer for the series, he shocks Kara by igniting a blue lightsaber, which would seem to reveal he is a noble character, not an evil Sith. We learn that Nawaam is amassing a vast fleet to bring order to the chaos of the galaxy, which includes eliminating the Jedi.<\/p>\n

\"Animated<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gennoh<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Gennoh is a new Sith character who promises to be a major threat. This mysterious individual, whose face is hidden behind a mask, is described as a Sith who hunts the Jedi on Nawaam\u2019s orders. The primary antagonists so far have been Jedi Hunters \u2013 bounty hunters who wield electrostaffs instead of lightsabers, so this is the first time we have seen a Sith in the series. We know very little about the Sith or how they operate in this version of\u00a0Star Wars, so finally getting to see one in this universe is very exciting!<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

We got a slight hint about what we can expect from the opening crawl in the original The Ninth Jedi:<\/p>\n

Ancient dark forces conspire to subjugate the galaxy. They hatch their own sinister plan to hunt all suspected Jedi and bring forth a new era of Sith rule\u2026.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

This raises a lot of questions \u2013 what are these \u2018ancient forces\u2019? Do all the Sith follow Nawaam, or do they have their own agenda? With a Sith character confirmed, we may get some answers to these questions. Gennoh is said to be an arrogant warrior with great confidence in his formidable dark side abilities. He also commands a massive warship that dwarfs any other vessel. This is likely the huge ship glimpsed in the trailer and a part of Nawaam\u2019s fleet.<\/p>\n

Dunbai<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Dunbai is another new character and is the ruler of the free city-state of Makoma Ko, using his skill in politics and commerce to protect his people. Dunbai is a former Jedi Knight who left his training behind to travel the Outer Rim as a merchant before settling down as a leader. His background is similar to Margrave Juro, a trained Jedi who is also a planetary leader.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the trailer, there\u2019s a brief shot that possibly shows Dunbai taking down some droids with a lightsaber, so maybe he joins Juro\u2019s quest to rebuild the Jedi. At the very least, I expect he will be sympathetic to our heroes and offer them shelter.<\/p>\n

All will be revealed when\u00a0Star Wars: Visions Presents \u2013 The Ninth Jedi arrives on Disney Plus on August 5.<\/p>\n
