{"id":1126852,"date":"2026-08-02T23:54:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T23:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1126852\/"},"modified":"2026-08-02T23:54:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T23:54:15","slug":"wiebes-triumphs-again-to-set-stage-win-record-at-womens-tour-de-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1126852\/","title":{"rendered":"Wiebes triumphs again to set stage win record at Women&#8217;s Tour de France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                        Lorena Wiebes from the Netherlands won her second consecutive stage at the 2026 Women&#8217;s Tour de France on Sunday to set a record of seven stage victories in the five-year-old race.        <\/p>\n<p class=\"m-pub-dates\">Issued on: 03\/08\/2026 &#8211; 00:15<\/p>\n<p>    1 min    Reading time\n<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old burst clear of the pack with 250m remaining of the 147.9km course to take glory.<\/p>\n<p>She completed the second stage between Aigle and\u00a0 Geneva in three hours, 42 minutes and eight seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Elisa\u00a0Balsamo was second and Marianne Vos was third.\u00a0The defending champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/sports\/20250803-france-s-ferrand-pr\u00e9vot-wins-2025-women-s-tour-de-france\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pauline Ferrand-Pr\u00e9vot <\/a>finished the second stage in 38th place to lie ninth overall, 20 seconds behind Wiebes.<\/p>\n<p>The end of the stage was tough on Riejanne Markus who led the race alone over the final 39 kilometres before she was reeled in just half a kilometre from the finishing line.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The girls were chasing full, full gas in the final to bring back Riejanne so it&#8217;s even more beautiful to finish it off in the yellow jersey.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;We were chasing all day&#8217; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were chasing all day,&#8221; Wiebes added. &#8220;In the end I managed to get a clear run and gave it all over the last 250m. I knew that it was up to me to find my own way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Winning in yellow makes it for sure special but also because, again, our team worked really hard for it,&#8221; Wiebes said.<\/p>\n<p>Wiebes, who rides for the Dutch stable Team SD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letourfemmes.fr\/en\/team\/SDW\/team-sd-worx-protime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Worx-Protime<\/a>, won the first stage of the 2026 competition on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a-read-more\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rfi.fr\/en\/sports\/20240818-niewiadoma-wins-women-s-tour-de-france-by-just-four-seconds\" target=\"_self\" class=\"a-read-more__link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Niewiadoma wins Women&#8217;s Tour de France by just four seconds<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To reach her record-breaking feat, Wiebes won the first stage of the inaugural Women&#8217;s Tour de France in 2022.
