\n\tGeno Segers, who was announced this week to join Broadway\u2019s \u201cHadestown<\/a>,\u201d will no longer be part of the Broadway production.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHadestown\u201d announced a new principal cast earlier this week, with Segers set to play Hades. His previous stage credits include \u201cOn the Town\u201d and \u201cThe Lion King\u201d as well as TV roles in \u201cBanshee,\u201d \u201cPair of Kings\u201d and \u201cYellowstone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe news that Segers is no longer joining the cast comes after online comments and videos resurfaced on theater blogs this week. Segers previously posted videos that some viewed as anti-transgender and critical of pronoun usage. The actor also allegedly criticized trans athletes participating in women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cHadestown\u201d producers said in a statement Sunday: \u201cThe producers of \u2018Hadestown\u2019 and Geno Segers have mutually agreed that Mr. Segers will no longer join the Broadway production. Additional casting will be announced shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSegers has made his Instagram account private and removed videos from his YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe new principal cast of \u201cHadestown\u201d will begin their run Sept. 1 at Broadway\u2019s Walter Kerr Theatre. The cast features pop-rock musician Kayko as Orpheus, Jasmin Savoy Brown (\u201cYellowjackets,\u201d \u201cTeenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma\u201d) as Eurydice, Norbert Leo Butz (\u201cCatch Me If You Can,\u201d \u201cDirty Rotten Scoundrels,\u201d \u201cWicked\u201d) as Hermes and Amber Iman (\u201cLempicka,\u201d \u201cGoddess\u201d) as Persephone.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHadestown\u201d was written by Ana\u00efs Mitchell. Through folk and jazz music, the show combines the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice with the myth of Hades and Persephone. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe show began its Broadway run in 2019 and opened on London\u2019s West End in 2024.
