Sheffield United<\/a> and Bolton Wanderers<\/a> have a huge final month of the window<\/a>. The pair are in the market for a new goalkeeper as they prepare for this upcoming Sky Bet Championship.<\/p>\n

SUFC and BWFC are exploring a deal for goalkeeper Asmir Begovic<\/a>, according to Darren Witcoop<\/a>. The Bosnian is weighing up his next move after leaving Leicester City<\/a> at the end of the season following his contract expiry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jack Bonham<\/a> looks set to start next season as\u00a0Bolton Wanderers<\/a>\u2019 starting shot-stopper. The former\u00a0Stoke City<\/a>\u00a0goalkeeper impressed in League One, but has not played regular Championship football since 2022\/23.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> on the other hand have Michael Cooper<\/a> as their starting goalkeeper. Begovic would like join both sides as a backup to start the campaign.<\/p>\n

Having represented Stoke City<\/a>, Chelsea, Bournemouth and most recently Leicester City<\/a>, the veteran goalkeeper understands the physical and tactical demands of the division and has consistently been praised for his leadership and communication. <\/p>\n

His presence in the dressing room can prove just as valuable as his performances on the pitch, particularly for squads featuring younger goalkeepers. Available on a free transfer following the expiry of his Leicester contract, Begovic represents a low-risk signing for clubs seeking experienced cover or genuine competition. <\/p>\n

He still offers a commanding aerial presence, dependable shot-stopping and the distribution needed to launch attacks from the back. Those qualities make him an appealing target for sides such as Bolton Wanderers<\/a> and Sheffield United<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Both of whom could benefit from a seasoned goalkeeper capable of stepping into the starting XI when required while also helping to drive standards behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

The Verdict: Begovic deal makes more sense for Bolton Wanderers<\/a> than SUFC<\/p>\n

Begovic may not have enjoyed his strongest campaign last season, but his experience is something Joel Bonham simply cannot match. If Bolton Wanderers<\/a> can complete a deal quickly, they will have time to assess whether he is capable of starting before the new season gets underway.<\/p>\n

A one-year contract would seem the sensible approach given his age, but he would still represent a worthwhile addition. His leadership and know-how could be invaluable over the course of a demanding campaign.<\/p>\n

With Nathan Broome, David Harrington and Luke Hutchinson currently providing the goalkeeping depth, adding someone of Begovic\u2019s calibre would significantly strengthen the department. His presence alone could raise standards and provide reassurance in a squad preparing for life back in the Championship.<\/p>\n
