<\/p>\nFans were introduced to Marvel’s first Chinese superhero back in 2021, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2. Despite reassurance from lead star Simu Liu himself, the sequel still hasn’t materialised.

The original movie follows Shang-Chi (Liu) as he’s confronted by his mysterious past while living a normal life in San Francisco. After being attacked by members of the Ten Rings, his father’s organisation, Shang-Chi is forced back into the dangerous world he desperately tried to escape. <\/p>\n
The mid-credit scenes saw Shang-Chi joining forces with sorcerer Wong, Bruce Banner (Hulk) and Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) to research the powerful rings. Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton has shared a huge update on the superhero’s future within the MCU. <\/p>\n

Related: UK film release dates<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Speaking exclusively with Digital Spy<\/strong> at the London premiere of Brand New Day, Cretton confirmed that the Shang-Chi sequel is definitely in the works. <\/p>\n “We are currently in development, trying to crack it. So fingers crossed,” he said. <\/p>\n Cretton, who also directed the first movie, went on to explain how working on Shang-Chi helped shape the narrative in Brand New Day. <\/p>\n “I think Shang-Chi taught me that, no matter how big your movie gets, it’s really the small moments that matter the most,” he shared.<\/p>\n Samir Hussein\/\/Getty Images<\/p>\n Related: <\/strong>Spider-Man: Brand New Day makes almost $1 billion in its opening weekend<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Elsewhere, the director praised Spider-Man star Tom Holland<\/a> for the emotional range showcased in the new movie. Though the fourth instalment sees Peter struggling with loneliness following the death of his aunt May (and the fact that his loved ones have forgotten who he is), Brand New Day also features some lighter moments. <\/p>\n “One of the joys of Tom Holland is that he’s always looking for the comedy, and really the grounded comedy, in every situation, and playing it as if it would happen to any of us.”<\/p>\n He added: “There’s a few scenes between Tom and Zendaya that will really grip audiences, and move them in unexpected ways.
