{"id":1128016,"date":"2026-08-03T14:28:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T14:28:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1128016\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T14:28:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T14:28:19","slug":"astrazeneca-and-bristol-myers-squibb-merger-talks-emerge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1128016\/","title":{"rendered":"AstraZeneca and Bristol Myers Squibb Merger Talks Emerge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.biz\/astrazeneca-uk-investment-300m\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_self\">AstraZeneca<\/a> and US pharmaceutical competitor Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) have reportedly held preliminary discussions regarding a potential combination that could create one of the world\u2019s largest drugmakers with a valuation approaching $400 billion. <\/p>\n<p>Reports first published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/e9027253-e13c-460a-a4b1-f9047e5a6ca7?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> and confirmed by Reuters, indicate that the two pharmaceutical giants have held talks in recent months.  <\/p>\n<p>While discussions could yield a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pharmacy.biz\/astrazeneca-signs-4-7bn-obesity-drugs-deal-with-china-s-cspc\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">deal<\/a> in the near future, sources quoted cautioned that talks remain fluid and could stall or fall apart. <\/p>\n<p>AstraZeneca, the UK\u2019s second most valuable listed company, has a market value of about \u00a3196bn ($264bn), while BMS is worth roughly $133bn.  <\/p>\n<p>AstraZeneca\u2019s London-listed shares fell sharply by nearly 7% on Monday morning (3), leading declines on the FTSE 100 index, as investors and market analysts reacted coolly to the prospect of a mega-merger.
