(neilthesealofficial.com)<\/p>\n<p>Artwork generated by OpenAI<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The company claimed a sticker depicting Neil the seal it had for sale was designed by a &#8220;local artist&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;This beautiful die-cut vinyl sticker is custom designed by a talented local Tasmanian artist to celebrate Neil&#8217;s famous seasonal return!&#8221; the website stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">But OpenAI&#8217;s tool for detecting AI-generated images found the sticker &#8220;was generated using OpenAI tools&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;We found a SynthID watermark that originated from OpenAI,&#8221; the tool reported.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Screenshot from OpenAI's website which says a 'Neil the seal' sticker was generated by AI.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2600c609b6d597c6ec8f33a5051c4121.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">OpenAI says the image of the hoodie contains a watermark meaning it was generated by AI. (OpenAI)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The plushie, T-shirt, mug and jumper for sale all revealed the same results.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">While the website has been taken down, similar ones remain online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">A website called &#8220;official Neil the seal&#8221; (rather than Neil the seal official) has been operating for a few weeks and also sells merchandise depicting Neil that appears AI-generated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The ABC has not been able to determine who runs the second website.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Screenshot from OpenAI's AI-generated image detection software.
