Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> are in advancing talks over a deal to sign Wrexham<\/a> midfielder George Dobson.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> are out to add more midfielders to their ranks this summer, and the club have had eyes on George Dobson of Wrexham<\/a>. It was said a deal may not come to the fore until later in the window, and now, Pete O\u2019Rourke<\/a> states SWFC\u2019s pursuit is advancing.<\/p>\n

The Owls are closing on a move to sign Dobson on loan from the Red Dragons. It comes amid the North Welsh side\u2019s nearing deal for Preston North End captain Ben Whiteman<\/a>, who is undergoing a medical ahead of a \u00a33m move.<\/p>\n

That swoop looks set to free Dobson to move, and it seems Hillsborough is his likely destination. The 28-year-old is under contract<\/a> until 2028, so would return to Wrexham<\/a> with a year left on his deal after the proposed loan.<\/p>\n

The move to bring Dobson to Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> marks an eye-catching coup. However, it is not the only impressive deal done by the Owls this summer, and it isn\u2019t even the only one in midfield.<\/p>\n

In a complete rebuild after relegation, SWFC are forging one of League One\u2019s best midfields for the 2026\/27 campaign. Should he join, Dobson would follow Barry Bannan<\/a>, Callum Slattery<\/a> and Billy Mitchell through the doors at Hillsborough.<\/p>\n

Add the promising Jarvis Thornton<\/a> into the mix, and Henrik Pedersen<\/a> has a seriously impressive group of midfielders on his books. There is a case to be made that all of these players are Championship calibre, with Thornton perhaps the only exception for now, although he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.<\/p>\n

Dobson managed to keep a starting spot at Championship play-off contenders Wrexham<\/a> despite strong competition last term. He is a combative midfielder with a strong passing range and composure in possession, also boasting the leadership abilities to become a key figure in Pedersen\u2019s dressing room.<\/p>\n

The Verdict: Dobson deal another statement of intent from Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> chiefs<\/p>\n

Dobson has played at various levels and proved himself in the Championship last term. League One is where he has found most of his action though, starring for Charlton Athletic<\/a>, Walsall<\/a> and Wrexham<\/a> in particular.<\/p>\n

He will be viewed as a plug-and-play asset at Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> \u2013 one who can come in and slot straight into the starting XI and deliver strong, consistent performances for Pedersen.<\/p>\n

It would be the latest in a string of statement signings from the new SWFC owners, even on loan. Alongside the earlier mentioned midfield additions, Dobson would follow the likes of Ricardo Santos, Louie Barry, Mason Burstow and Harry Gray through the doors at Hillsborough.<\/p>\n
