Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> are expected to complete the signing of free agent midfielder and recent trialist Tyler Onyango.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> remain in the market for new signings as their busy summer transfer window of recruitment continues. Deals including fees and loan swoops have been made, but the free agents market still has value, and SWFC have been eyeing Tyler Onyango<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Owls entered talks with ex-Everton man Onyango<\/a> after his training stint with Henrik Pedersen\u2019s side. Now, The Star<\/a> has said that the League One club are set to sign the 23-year-old midfielder with a deal fully expected to be done.<\/p>\n

Although it is not yet complete, Onynago is poised to sign and could join Wednesday in time to be available for the Carabao Cup clash with Bolton Wanderers<\/a> this weekend.<\/p>\n

Why Tyler Onynago is a smart signing for Sheffield Wednesday<\/a><\/p>\n

A free transfer deal for Onyango is not one that is going to make headlines, especially when Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have made statement signings like Barry Bannan<\/a>, Louie Barry<\/a>, Callum Slattery<\/a> and more this summer. However, this move is not one to overlook.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old midfielder comes in for nothing, keeping the costs down and leaving funds available to invest elsewhere. Onyango boasts a high ceiling and has plenty of room to develop, alongside experience at League One level with Stockport County<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not only this, but his physical frame helps him slot into defence as well as his preferred role in midfield. Onyango brings strength and versatility to Pedersen\u2019s side, all while not costing a dime to sign.<\/p>\n

Deals like this won\u2019t get fans off seats but it marks sensible business from SWFC. Although the priority is building a starting XI ready to challenge in League One, they can not abandon the rest of the squad and the move for Onyango shows that is not the case.<\/p>\n

The midfield has been a real focus in Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>\u2019s rebuild. Contract expiries, loan ends and player sales meant it was a bare department at the start of the summer, but that is not the case anymore.<\/p>\n

Onyango is set to follow Bannan, Slattery and Billy Mitchell through the doors at Hillsborough. Promising youngster Jarvis Thornton<\/a> has been tied down to a new contract too, so there is a really solid stable of midfield players available to Pedersen.<\/p>\n

SWFC might not be done yet either. Wednesday are interested in George Dobson<\/a>, although he has interest at Championship level and appears an unlikely signing for the ambitious Steel City club at present.<\/p>\n

More business awaits at Hillsborough over the coming weeks, but Onyango seems bound to become the next signing for the club.<\/p>\n
