{"id":1134087,"date":"2026-08-06T15:24:21","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:24:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1134087\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T15:24:21","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T15:24:21","slug":"feedback-sought-on-important-document-for-future-mass-transit-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1134087\/","title":{"rendered":"Feedback sought on important document for future Mass Transit system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1020\" height=\"673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/MassTransit1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>People, businesses and developers are being asked for their views on early plans which outline how West Yorkshire\u2019s proposed Mass Transit system will contribute to economic growth and development across the region.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, all five West Yorkshire local authorities launched a consultation on the plan which will ensure there is a co-ordinated approach to land use, growth, regeneration and transport decisions across local boundaries.<\/p>\n<p>Feedback from that consultation helped inform the draft Spatial Development Framework, also known as the SDF, which is intended to support the delivery of current and future phases of the Mass Transit programme.<\/p>\n<p>The current consultation is now seeking representations on whether the draft SDF is legally compliant and sound before it is submitted for independent examination.<\/p>\n<p>Mass Transit has the potential to accelerate economic and housing growth, tackle congestion and unreliable journeys and boost access to jobs and opportunities, while reducing carbon emissions and improving air quality.<\/p>\n<p>The SDF envisions focusing new development around Mass Transit stops and hubs to make the most of these benefits, supporting new homes, jobs and services within easy walking distance.<\/p>\n<p>This approach will add to individual councils\u2019 local plans though more co-ordinated development, seizing opportunities and better social, economic and environmental outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAs a council, we recognise the transformational impact that the proposed Mass Transit system would have on Leeds and the rest of West Yorkshire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe successful delivery of a scheme such as this will require a joined-up approach that brings together local authorities, businesses, stakeholders and communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would therefore encourage as many people as possible to take the opportunity to have their say on the soundness of the draft Spatial Development Framework.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt is so important we get these steps right, as it will demonstrate that all West Yorkshire councils are working together to deliver Mass Transit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we need from the public, businesses and developers is to understand if they feel the plans for our framework are sound and reliable.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMass Transit is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a better-connected public transport network for West Yorkshire, so we need to ensure everyone is on that journey with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The latest Spatial Development Framework consultation is not asking for feedback on routes, route alignment or things like depots and park and ride sites.
