The Spanish side\u2019s third \u2013 minutes before half-time \u2013 came courtesy of <strong>Kai Havertz<\/strong> (\u00a37.5m) giving away possession near the edge of his own box.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Havertz lined up in midfield again here with <strong>Viktor Gyokeres<\/strong> (\u00a37.5m) leading the line, and the Germany international played through his Swedish teammate for a great close-range chance that was saved by Betis goalie Alvaro Valles\u2019s boot in the opening minutes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>The Gunners did manage a goal of their own in the first half as <strong>Piero Hincapie<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) nodded home a corner delivery from in-form new winger <strong>Christos Tzolis <\/strong>(\u00a36.5m) to temporarily make it 2-1, but that would prove to be a mere consolation effort in the end.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>A second half characterised by a raft of substitutions brought little else in terms of goalmouth action, with more eyes on the half-time introductions and subsequent 76th-minute withdrawals of Brazilian duo <strong>Gabriel Magalhaes<\/strong> (\u00a38.0m) and <strong>Gabriel Martinelli <\/strong>(\u00a36.5m).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Making their respective <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk\/2026\/08\/06\/fpl-2026-27-pre-season-minutes-goals-assists-tracker\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pre-season bows<\/a> after a post-World Cup break, the pair are not thought to be injured; rather, Arteta looks to be carefully managing the workload of his international players, having offered similar half-hour outings to Hincapie, Gyokeres and Havertz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk\/2026\/08\/06\/2026\/08\/02\/fpl-pre-season-estevao-superb-pedro-unlucky-tzolis-debut\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last time out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>It meant 25 players got a run-out for Arsenal all in all, with the other extra change coming when teenager Louie Copley had to be replaced due to an apparent knee injury soon after he took stand-in captain <strong>Ben White<\/strong>\u2019s (\u00a35.5m) spot at right-back.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYeah, that\u2019s a lot of players and obviously you don\u2019t have that momentum and that rhythm, but we indeed have players coming in at different stages. We cannot risk the play; we need to be really smart about how we\u2019re going to progress them and the entire defeat is a good thing in pre-season to create even more fire in the belly.\u201d \u2013 Mikel Arteta<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>A lot of players and more still to return, with <strong>Martin Odegaard <\/strong>(\u00a36.5m) due back next, having resumed individual training following his World Cup campaign with Norway. He could therefore be involved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk\/2026\/08\/06\/2026\/07\/15\/fpl-2026-27-premier-league-clubs-pre-season-friendlies-by-date\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">when Arsenal face Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup on Sunday<\/a>, or otherwise appear in next Wednesday\u2019s home clash with Como in preparation for the Community Shield on 16th August.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Sometime after Odegaard\u2019s imminent return, Arteta\u2019s options will be further bolstered when England\u2019s <strong>Declan Rice<\/strong> (\u00a37.5m), <strong>Eberechi Eze<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m), <strong>Bukayo Saka<\/strong> (\u00a39.5m) and <strong>Noni Madueke<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m) are back with their club squad in north London, as with World Cup winners <strong>David Raya<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m), <strong>Martin Zubimendi<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) and <strong>Mikel Merino<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m) of Spain.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been 10 days away from home, so we\u2019re looking forward to coming back, seeing some players as well. Martin will be back and then the English and Spanish internationals will be back soon as well. So, we\u2019re going to start to have more and more players at the moment, we still miss a lot of them.\u201d \u2013 Mikel Arteta<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Miss them indeed, and there remained two other senior absentees in the form of injured pair <strong>William Saliba<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m) and <strong>Jurrien Timber<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m). Saliba\u2019s back injury sustained in the latter stages of the World Cup is expected to sideline the Frenchman for the start of the season, while Timber faces a race against time to recover from a persistent groin problem.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the meantime, though, there were more promising performances from <strong>Max Dowman <\/strong>(\u00a35.5m) and Tzolis, who had a pre-season goal and assist apiece coming into this match and combined well to force the corner taken by the Greek international that led to Hincapie\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Myles Lewis-Skelly<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) again played as a sole holding midfielder with Arteta light on central options, while <strong>Ethan Nwaneri<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) did little to persuade the gaffer to look his way when the locker room fills back up.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>K-LEAGUE XI 1-3 MAN CITY<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2026-08-05T120300Z_1600001984_UP1EM850XGZ1W_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-FRIENDLY-MCI-KLA-1-1024x481.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-173452 webpexpress-processed\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:500px;height:200px\"  \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Goals: <\/strong>Ait-Nouri, Reijnders, Mubama<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assist: <\/strong>Semenyo x2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Manchester City XI:<\/strong> Donnarumma (Bettinelli 46), Khusanov (Reis 46), Dias (Alleyne 46), Gvardiol (Mfuni 46), Ait-Nouri (Monga 60), Lewis (Nunes 60), Kovacic (Nico 46), Reijnders (Heskey 60), Semenyo (Savinho 46), Foden (Echeverri 60), Mubama (Marmoush 60)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Manchester City, meanwhile, battled through sweltering Seoul heat to triumph 3-1 over a K-League XI, marking Enzo Maresca\u2019s first win at the helm.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Divin Mubama<\/strong> scored for the second match in a row after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk\/2026\/08\/06\/2026\/08\/03\/fpl-pre-season-semenyos-role-change-rohl-goal-fulham-pens\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">last weekend\u2019s draw with Inter Milan<\/a>, the 21-year-old centre-forward starting up front with <strong>Erling Haaland<\/strong> (\u00a315.5m) on his post-World Cup break and <strong>Omar Marmoush<\/strong> (\u00a37.0m) restricted to a substitute appearance on the hour mark.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Mubama was the intended target of a cut-back from <strong>Tijjani Reijnders<\/strong> (\u00a36.0m) that deflected to <strong>Rayan Ait-Nouri<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) for the opener, and he found the back of the net himself to make City\u2019s advantage a comfortable one when pouncing on a rebound from <strong>Antoine Semenyo<\/strong>\u2019s (\u00a38.5m) saved shot.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Minutes earlier, a cheeky backheeled pass earned Semenyo an assist when Reijnders finished sharply on the turn to restore City\u2019s lead after an outside-the-box finish from Kim Dae Won \u2013 who was given too much space by Maresca\u2019s defensive troops on the edge of the area \u2013 had levelled the scores for a spell.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>By the second half, the game had largely petered out, though Marmoush and fellow substitutes <strong>Savinho<\/strong> (\u00a36.5m) and <strong>Jeremy Monga<\/strong> (\u00a35.0m) did test the opposing goalkeeper late on. Monga, making his debut after joining from Leicester City, also saw a goal ruled out for a handball offence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Of note from an FPL perspective was Ait-Nouri\u2019s deployment as a left winger, forming the three-strong support crew for Mubama in Maresca\u2019s 4-2-3-1 alongside No 10 <strong>Phil Foden<\/strong> (\u00a37.0m) \u2013 who had some promising moments but blazed one decent chance over the bar \u2013 and Semenyo.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>That left <strong>Josko Gvardiol <\/strong>(\u00a35.5m) at left-back, completing a backline that also included <strong>Rico Lewis<\/strong> (\u00a34.5m) plus central defensive pairing <strong>Abdukodir Khusanov<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) and skipper <strong>Ruben Dias <\/strong>(\u00a35.5m), with <strong>Mateo Kovacic<\/strong> (\u00a35.5m) and the box-crashing Reijnders in the double pivot.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>There remains a large group of senior squad members who are due to join up with the squad back in Manchester next week ahead of the Community Shield, namely those who reached the latter stages of this summer\u2019s World Cup.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEight or nine players are still not here with us. But the important thing is when they are here they make the effort to do the things we have been trying to do since day one.
