Reps for Harry declined to comment Wednesday to USA TODAY.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2025\/03\/27\/king-charles-iii-hospitalized-cancer-treatment-side-effects\/82696640007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">King Charles III<\/a>&#8216;s youngest son is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2024\/02\/28\/prince-harry-lawsuit-uk-security-detail-loss\/72770549007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">trying to overturn<\/a>\u00a0a decision by the Home Office, which oversees the country&#8217;s policing and decided in February 2020 that he would not automatically receive personal security detail while in Britain.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the High Court in London ruled that the decision was lawful and refused to let him challenge that ruling in a higher court. However, an appeals court agreed to hear the case following a direct application from Harry&#8217;s lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal is just one of several lawsuits or legal issues involving the litigious father of two, 40, who has been entangled in more than a half-dozen lawsuits in both the U.S. and England against various media entities.<\/p>\n<p>Harry has long held a particular grievance against the American and British press, anchored in part to his contention that paparazzi were to blame for the \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/life\/2017\/08\/31\/princess-diana-timeline-day-she-died\/533000001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1997 paparazzi chase and resulting car accident that killed his mother, Princess Diana<\/a>, who was killed trying to flee photographers in Paris.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The catastrophic event is a catalyst for Harry and wife Meghan&#8217;s approach to the media and their handling of the royal exit, which was done in part over the couple&#8217;s mental health concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Harry&#8217;s lawyers have criticized the decision to revoke his security, pointing to threats from terrorist group Al Qaeda and the couple&#8217;s own 2023 paparazzi chase.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to USA TODAY and other media outlets at the time, Harry and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2025\/04\/05\/duchess-meghan-markle-as-ever-netflix-show\/82953436007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Duchess Meghan&#8217;s<\/a> office said it was a &#8220;near catastrophic&#8221; event. The chase occurred <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2023\/05\/17\/duchess-meghan-women-of-vision-award-paparazzi-car-chase\/70227034007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after the Netflix stars left a charity event in New York City<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Prince Harry&#8217;s lawyers say UK government <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/celebrities\/2025\/04\/08\/prince-harry-court-uk-police-protection-case\/82990723007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;singled&#8217; him out, cite al Qaeda threats<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Harry&#8217;s lawyer Shaheed Fatima said Tuesday in court that the agency, which protects royal and public figures, had treated Harry on a &#8220;bespoke&#8221; basis not applied to anyone else.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It means he has been singled out for different, unjustified and inferior treatment,&#8221; she said, saying he was not seeking to be treated as he was when he was a working member of the royal family.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving his role as a working royal, Harry retreated to his mom Diana and wife Meghan&#8217;s beloved California, where the latter was born and raised.
