Drivers were stuck in 90-minute traffic delays near Birmingham Airport after a lorry caught fire.<\/p>\n
The lorry blaze <\/a>happened on the M6 northbound between J4, for BHX, and J6, for Birmingham, at around 11am today, August 7.<\/p>\n BHX warned passengers<\/a> travelling to the airport to allow extra time for their journeys.<\/p>\n READ MORE: <\/strong>M6 Birmingham Airport delays live as lanes blocked after lorry fire<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Fire crews from Sheldon, Hay Mills and Bickenhill rushed to battle the blaze which closed several lanes<\/a> on the carriageway.<\/p>\n No one was injured during the incident, West Midlands Fire said.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the fire service told BirminghamLive<\/a>: “We’re currently in attendance at fire affecting a heavy goods vehicle on the M6 Northbound, between J4 for BHX ad J6 for Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n “Three fire engines from Sheldon, Hay Mills and Bickenhill are at the scene.<\/p>\n “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire, which affected the entirety of the lorry.<\/p>\n “There were no casualties or injuries.<\/p>\n Follow our live blog on this incident<\/strong><\/a> for the <\/strong>very latest traffic updates<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n “After a full motorway closure, one lane has now re-opened.<\/p>\n “Please follow National Highways West Midlands for traffic updates.<\/p>\n “Highways and Police colleagues are also in attendance, supporting with traffic management and vehicle recovery.”<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the airport wrote on social media platform X: “Allow extra time if you’re travelling to and from Birmingham Airport.”<\/p>\n National Highways West Midlands said traffic had “stopped” on the motorway after the lorry caught fire.<\/p>\n
