Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Djed Spence as Michael Carrick considers adding another defender before the transfer window closes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spence\u2019s representatives have made United aware of the Tottenham Hotspur defender\u2019s availability following an impressive World Cup with England.<\/p>\n

Journalist Ben Jacobs says<\/a> Spence has been offered to both United and Liverpool, although there is currently no indication that the Old Trafford hierarchy have decided to pursue him.<\/p>\n

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to consider offers of around \u00a335million for the 25-year-old.<\/p>\n

Djed Spence gives Man Utd another left-back option<\/p>\n

Spence is naturally right-footed but his ability to operate on either side of the defence could appeal to Carrick.<\/p>\n

He featured prominently from the left for England at this summer\u2019s World Cup and is now understood to want regular first-team football after returning to Tottenham.<\/p>\n

United have already been looking at several defensive options. ReadManUtd reported on Thursday that Giorgio Scalvini has been scouted as Carrick\u2019s transfer priorities move towards strengthening his defence<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Left-back has been a particular area of consideration. Luke Shaw remains Carrick\u2019s established senior option, while Patrick Dorgu has increasingly been viewed as a player who can operate further forward.<\/p>\n

Spence would offer something different because of his ability to cover both full-back positions.<\/p>\n

There is an important distinction, however. United being offered Spence does not mean talks are underway.<\/p>\n

Jacobs says he is not aware of United telling Spence\u2019s camp that they want to proceed with a transfer. Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi would also reportedly prefer to retain him as part of his squad.<\/p>\n

For now, Spence represents another available option rather than an active United deal.<\/p>\n

At around \u00a335m, though, his availability could become increasingly relevant if Newcastle maintain their firm stance over Lewis Hall.<\/p>\n
