{"id":1136035,"date":"2026-08-07T15:01:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T15:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1136035\/"},"modified":"2026-08-07T15:01:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T15:01:15","slug":"nasa-curiosity-rover-finds-mysterious-ancient-clue-to-life-on-mars-science-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1136035\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA Curiosity rover finds mysterious ancient clue to life on Mars | Science | News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NASA&#8217;s Curiosity rover made <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/world\/2234638\/nasa-makes-major-discovery-search\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a startling discovery<\/a> while traversing Mars in mid-June, the space agency revealed in a statement released in late July.<\/p>\n<p>The sophisticated astronomical equipment <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/science\/2204447\/nasa-curiosity-rover-spiderwebs-mars-ancient-alien-life-water-discovery\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">captured remarkable images<\/a> on 19th and 20th June that revealed a distinctive, honeycomb-like pattern on the planet&#8217;s surface. The latest find was made more than a decade into Curiosity&#8217;s mission to explore Mars, NASA confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Scientifically termed &#8220;polygonal fractures,&#8221; the honeycomb-like formation was discovered in a Martian valley called Valle Grande and measured 1.5 to 3 inches.<\/p>\n<p>NASA acknowledged that the rover has uncovered similar geometric formations on the planet&#8217;s surface previously. However, this particular pattern is unfamiliar to the scientific community.<\/p>\n<p data-mce-linkchecker-status=\"valid\">&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen a lot of fascinating landscapes through Curiosity&#8217;s eyes, but this sea of polygons took our breath away,&#8221; project scientist Ashwin Vasavada of NASA&#8217;s Jet Propulsion Laboratory said in a statement. &#8220;We measured their shapes and chemistry carefully and are hopeful there are clues in the data as to how these features formed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NASA described the &#8220;polygonal fractures&#8221; as extending as far as Curiosity is capable of observing from a steep hill that scientists have named Miraflores.<\/p>\n<p>The origins of the discovery presently remain a mystery, NASA acknowledges.
