Negotiations were slowing down yesterday evening but accelerated after midnight as Starmer made a series of \u201cconcessions in the early hours\u201d particularly on the length of access enjoyed by EU member states to UK waters.\u00a0None of this is good for Starmer\u2019s attempt to cosplay as right-wing\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week Mike Cohen, chief executive of the National Federation of Fishermen\u2019s Organisations, had warned the government to hold its nerve on the issue. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/200c1a5d-5a5c-4b98-8868-004c753d7dc7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the Financial Times Starmer should refuse an EU demand to extend extant access arrangements to British waters. The paper reported: \u201cCohen said EU fishermen took about \u00a3500mn of fish each year from UK waters under a post-Brexit deal that comes up for renewal in 2026.\u201d Meanwhile the Scottish Fishermen\u2019s Federation wrote a letter to the PM urging caution \u2013 its chief executive told the BBC that \u201cif another multi-year deal is on the table, that must come with some transfer of meaningful commercially viable fishing opportunities to the UK.\u201d Starmer is going to suffer a huge backlash on this\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE<\/strong>: 12 year fishing rights confirmed.
