{"id":1139785,"date":"2026-08-09T14:15:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1139785\/"},"modified":"2026-08-09T14:15:19","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T14:15:19","slug":"americas-cup-newcomers-arc-team-usa-show-signs-of-life-as-major-announcement-looms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/1139785\/","title":{"rendered":"America\u2019s Cup: Newcomers ARC Team USA show signs of life as major announcement looms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">As they prepare for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-the-shift-that-could-play-kingmaker-as-team-nz-set-out-to-defend-auld-mug\/GPO5L7OIR5CEZOXF4E7TLVPVVE\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-the-shift-that-could-play-kingmaker-as-team-nz-set-out-to-defend-auld-mug\/GPO5L7OIR5CEZOXF4E7TLVPVVE\/\">their first racing<\/a> of the campaign, chief executive Ken Read confirmed to the Herald they would be announcing their core America\u2019s Cup team line-up early this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe\u2019ve spent the summer evaluating talent across our senior, youth and women\u2019s programmes, and we\u2019re really pleased with where we\u2019ve got to so far,\u201d Read said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cWe\u2019re announcing our initial AC75 sailing squad on Monday [UST], which includes five senior sailors plus one senior female sailor, and we expect to add another one or two sailors as the campaign develops. For our Youth and Women\u2019s America\u2019s Cup teams, the selection process is still ongoing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe group we\u2019ve assembled is a really strong mix of experience and emerging talent. Several of the sailors already have experience racing the AC40, while a couple have sailed the AC75.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt\u2019s a talented, motivated group and we\u2019re excited to keep building together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">The American entry began their campaign having to play catch-up after being late to the party, but confirming their place on the starting line for the next preliminary regatta is a big step forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">In the first preliminary regatta, held in Cagliari in May, Emirates Team New Zealand, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-peter-burlings-new-surroundings-as-luna-rossa-la-roche-posay-racing-team-relaunch-ac75s\/NGUSEVBC4VENBJMWK7NZLK4CRU\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-peter-burlings-new-surroundings-as-luna-rossa-la-roche-posay-racing-team-relaunch-ac75s\/NGUSEVBC4VENBJMWK7NZLK4CRU\/\">Italy\u2019s Luna Rossa<\/a> and the United Kingdom\u2019s GB1 entered two AC40s each \u2013 one crewed by the main America\u2019s Cup team and the other by Youth and Women\u2019s team sailors \u2013 while France\u2019s La Roche Posay Racing Team and Switzerland\u2019s Tudor Team Alinghi entered one team each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">That will be the same line-up in Naples, with the addition of the Americans.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">With nine boats confirmed for the Naples regatta next month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-2027-team-australia-entry-confirmed-in-record-fleet\/OSQ6S2UIMJGA5PI2J4NL5ESNOQ\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nzherald.co.nz\/sport\/sailing\/americas-cup\/americas-cup-2027-team-australia-entry-confirmed-in-record-fleet\/OSQ6S2UIMJGA5PI2J4NL5ESNOQ\/\">Team Australia<\/a> are the only entry yet to signal when they hope to be on the water and racing among the rest of the fleet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">For the Americans, the Naples preliminary regatta won\u2019t be about winning and losing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cOur expectations aren\u2019t really measured by the result. Success for us is about gaining experience and maximising our time in the boat together,\u201d Read said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"GVVHMTqjHdqyH\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cOne of the unique features of this America\u2019s Cup cycle is just how little time teams actually spend sailing together in a competitive environment. That\u2019s why opportunities like the preliminary regatta are so valuable.
