Entering account information and trying to sign in causes the app to briefly load before kicking users back to the login page. When trying to sign in via the Letterboxd website, users are given the message, \u201cAn error occurred. Please try again later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe outage began around 6 a.m. PT on Sunday, with over 1,000 users reporting issues, according to DownDetector. At the time of posting this article, the issues are ongoing. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLetterboxd posted the following statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Db0iuUGgAop\/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram in light of the technical difficulties<\/a>: \u201cHang in there. Our team is aware of an outage affecting service and is working to restore access as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAs of June, Letterboxd has more than 30 million users worldwide, adding 10 million in 2025 alone. The platform, which operates out of Auckland, New Zealand, skyrocketed in popularity during the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tA report from Puck in early July stated that Letterboxd, founded in 2011, is i<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/digital\/news\/letterboxd-sales-talks-netflix-sony-paramount-1236806379\/\">n early talks with a number of high-profile buyers<\/a>. Interested parties allegedly include Netflix, Sony Pictures, Paramount Skydance, private equity firm TPG and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. Netflix, Paramount and Sony Pictures declined to comment when the report went live. Reps for TPG didn\u2019t respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn a statement, a Letterboxd representative said at the time: \u201cAs Letterboxd has grown, it\u2019s natural there will be interest in what we do next. There\u2019s nothing specific for us to share at this time.
