Sheffield United<\/a> star Gustavo Hamer has entered the final year of his contract<\/a> at Bramall Lane. The Blades faced a difficult task to keep him this summer, amid links of a return<\/a> to former club Coventry City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, a deal to sell Hamer back to the Sky Blues has been agreed. Mark McAdam<\/a> is reporting that Coventry City<\/a> have now agreed a fee with SUFC, who is set for a medical today (Sunday) with his former side ahead of his, and their, Premier League return.<\/p>\n

Coventry will pay just \u00a36m to bring the attacking midfielder back to the club, plus some add-ons. Hamer left the CBS Arena to\u00a0join<\/a>\u00a0SUFC in the Premier League in 2023.<\/p>\n

A major blow for Sheffield United<\/a>, but the deal suits all parties<\/p>\n

Hamer joined Sheffield United<\/a> for their 2023\/24 Premier League campaign, it represented a richly deserved step up. The Dutchman had starred in the Championship and quickly showed he was capable of competing at the highest level.<\/p>\n

Hamer impressed despite the Blades\u2019 struggles that season, registering four goals and seven assists in 34 appearances. Many expected him to return to the Premier League sooner rather than later, but he instead spent the next two years competing in the Championship with United.<\/p>\n

With Hamer entering the final year of his contract, Sheffield United<\/a> faced the prospect of losing one of their most valuable assets for nothing. That made a sale this summer the sensible option, particularly with the midfielder having already attracted interest from elsewhere.<\/p>\n

A deal has now been agreed for Hamer to leave SUFC, bringing an end to his spell with the club. The Blades will recoup a fee for a player who has remained one of their standout performers, while Hamer finally gets the Premier League return he has arguably deserved for the past two years.<\/p>\n

His departure will be a significant blow for Chris Wilder and Sheffield United<\/a>. However, with the deal now agreed, it represents a sensible outcome for all parties and gives Hamer another opportunity to prove himself at the top level.<\/p>\n

However, with Hamer going they are receiving a fee and likely one of their bigger earners off the wage bill. He must be replaced by a big signing<\/a>, as Sheffield United<\/a> could find themselves in trouble this term losing his attacking output.<\/p>\n
